We currently have an opening for a qualified Customs Entry Writer. In this role, you will ensure adherence to federal and international regulations governing the shipment, receipt, and documentation of imported goods while processing individual entries to Customs Border Patrol (US CUSTOMS). You will also calculate tariffs (taxes) and price conversions for merchandise imported from abroad. Additionally, you will review various documents, including invoices, bills of lading, and shipping statements, to facilitate the release of incoming freight and address any delays.
Key Responsibilities:
- Participate in strategizing and directing the flow of traffic to and from international destinations.
- Accurately classify dutiable import/export shipments to ensure compliance with all regulatory agency rules and regulations.
- Process all requests for extensions, expirations, cancellations, and all government entries.
- Communicate with origin and destination locations regarding shipment status and special handling and delivery processes.
- Apply for Import/Export Permits and Certificates of Eligibility.
- Maintain open communication with the department of foreign affairs.
- Receive and distribute all incoming and outgoing correspondence.
- Examine online commercial invoices and other documents to determine the correct Harmonized Tariff Code for each commodity to ensure accurate classification.
- Possess knowledge of US Customs Regulations regarding Foreign Trade Agreements and other duty exemptions.
- Demonstrate attention to detail, organizational skills, and effective time management.
- Process shipments through various online platforms for submission to FDA and US Customs to secure proper clearance.
Skills & Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent (Associate degree preferred).
- Willingness to work overtime as required.
- Minimum of 1 year experience in transportation or customs preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), database, and web-based applications.
- Strong oral and written communication skills, problem-solving abilities, and interpersonal skills; courteous and clear telephone voice.
- Proficiency with a 10-key calculator.
