We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Peer Support Specialist - Bilingual Counselor to join our team at Mental Health Association of San Francisco. This is a unique opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of individuals struggling with mental health challenges.

About the Role

The Bilingual Warm Line Counselor will provide non-crisis phone and instant messaging support to individuals across California, utilizing their lived experience of mental health challenges to connect with callers and chat visitors on a personal level. This role requires active listening skills, peer counseling abilities, and a warm, non-judgmental approach to engagement.

Responsibilities
  • Answer incoming calls and instant messages in Spanish and English, providing empathetic support and connecting callers with resources as needed.
  • Gather demographic information and record survey data using the iCarol database program.
  • Maintain detailed documentation of all calls and chats, adhering to confidentiality agreements and MHASF procedures.
  • Participate in regular staff meetings, supervision sessions, and training opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge.
Requirements
  • Bilingual (fluent) in Spanish, with the ability to discuss behavioral health issues accurately and accessibly.
  • Personal lived experience of mental health challenges, with a willingness to share aspects of your own experience with callers and chat visitors.
  • Familiarity with the peer support model and its values.
  • Professional computer experience, comfort with typing, and ability to quickly learn new software.
  • Effective organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage time and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Commitment to confidentiality practices, affirmative approach toward diverse individuals, and upholding the mission and values of MHASF.
Benefits and Compensation

This full-time position offers a competitive salary of $25.00/hour base rate, with differential pay rates available for weekend, overnight, and holiday shifts. Additionally, you'll enjoy comprehensive benefits, including 100% Employer Paid Medical, Dental, Vision, Life, and Long-term Disability coverage; EAP; and 30+ days of PTO, including vacation days, sick days, and major holidays.
