Position: Culinary Specialist

Location: Brookings, South Dakota

Inter-Lakes Community Action Partnership is seeking a dedicated Culinary Specialist to join our Nutrition Program team in Brookings, South Dakota. This position plays a vital role in delivering wholesome and appetizing meals to the children and elderly individuals we serve. It is more than just a cooking position; it is an opportunity to enhance the health and well-being of our community.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with the Administrative Site Manager to design menus that are both appealing and nutritionally balanced.
  • Prepare, cook, and serve meals according to established menus and nutritional guidelines, utilizing approved recipes.
  • Safely operate kitchen equipment, including dishwashers, toasters, knives, stoves, and microwaves.
  • Ensure compliance with food safety regulations, including monitoring food temperatures and portion sizes.
  • Document daily meal services and consumption to meet State and Federal agency requirements, aligning with relevant food program standards.
  • Oversee food supply ordering and inventory management, ensuring proper storage and rotation practices.
  • Maintain high standards of cleanliness and sanitation in the kitchen environment.
  • Supervise and coordinate volunteers in food preparation, cleaning, and dishwashing tasks.
  • Utilize administrative tools for tasks such as invoice verification and submission.
  • Adhere to safety protocols and maintain confidentiality regarding client information.
  • Participate in necessary meetings, training sessions, and seminars.
Education and Experience:
  • High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
  • A minimum of one year of experience in large-scale meal preparation and kitchen sanitation, or a combination of education and experience.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Experience working with pre-school age children or elderly adults is a plus.
