Position Summary & Responsibilities

  • We are seeking a full-time Railroad Specialist to join our team in Brookings, SD. The majority of our railroad projects involve working with shortline railroads and private industry in the upper Midwest.
  • This position reports directly to the Managing Partner.
  • The specialist will assist in conducting track inspections, maintenance planning, feasibility studies, cost estimation, and other necessary reports.
  • Review and analyze survey reports, drawings, maps, blueprints, aerial imagery, and other geological or topographical data pertinent to project studies.
  • Engage in preliminary on-site evaluations.
  • Coordinate assigned construction projects under the guidance of the Managing Partner to ensure adherence to deadlines and project specifications.
  • Inspect construction sites to monitor progress and ensure compliance with design standards and requirements.
  • Prepare observation reports and other documentation to record construction progress.
  • Assist in the analysis and inspection of railroad facilities under the direction of the Managing Partner.
  • Compile and analyze data, preparing comprehensive reports.
  • Coordinate and participate in inspections and meetings to gather information relevant to studies.
  • Support the development of business relationships with existing clients and the acquisition of new clients.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Managing Partner.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in railroad construction or construction management is preferred but not mandatory.
  • An Associate degree, Bachelor of Science degree, or equivalent experience is considered.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications is required.
  • Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D is preferred but not essential.
  • Familiarity with codes and standards applicable to construction observation is necessary.
  • A self-motivated team player with a positive attitude, capable of multitasking and prioritizing effectively.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential.
  • Must possess permanent authorization to work in the United States.
  • A valid driver's license and the ability to travel to various job sites as required.
  • Willingness to travel to construction sites approximately 75% of the time, with office work comprising about 25% of the time.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
