This role is part of a comprehensive training program for Clinical Laboratory Technologists, where the incumbent will engage in clinical rotations under the guidance and supervision of a qualified training instructor within an accredited Medical Laboratory Science program.

The selected candidate will be enrolled in a program and is expected to fulfill the training curriculum, complete designated clinical rotations, and accumulate specific hours of on-the-job training as outlined by the program and employer.

The intern will undertake a variety of laboratory technician responsibilities as assigned. Upon successful completion of the program, the intern must secure a Clinical Laboratory Trainee License as a Medical Technologist Trainee prior to transitioning from trainee status to licensed status.

A commitment of two years will commence from the first day of active employment as a licensed Medical Technologist Trainee, and no later than 30 days following degree conferment.

According to regulations, the technologist has three years to obtain certification, with one year required for this program.


In the event that licensure is not achieved, it will be at the hospital's discretion to determine whether the intern will continue employment and in what capacity.

If the intern wishes to transition out of the laboratory services environment but still utilize their skills in a related hospital department, management will consider such requests but is not obligated to grant them.

The hospital will cover approved expenses associated with the program.



MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:
  • Must be accepted and enrolled in an accredited Medical Laboratory Science (MLS) Baccalaureate program and be credited as a senior.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Obtain a Clinical Laboratory Trainee License during the clinical externship.

  • Experience in a hospital setting.

CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Complete all coursework associated with the MLS program, achieving a GPA of 2.0 or higher within the accredited program timeframe, maintaining eligibility for graduation.
  • Conduct all duties in accordance with the program curriculum and safety standards.
  • Adhere to the Standards of Behavior at the accredited training program site and within the hospital during mentored clinical experiences.
  • Commit to the schedule outlined during orientation and participate in hospital educational meetings with designated clinical preceptors. Maintain required logbooks to document paid training and clinical hours.
  • Complete face-to-face clinical instruction and rotations as necessary and agreed upon.

  • Capable of prolonged periods of standing and walking.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds and push/pull heavy carts.

  • Must be able to work while wearing personal protective equipment and appropriate lab attire for extended periods.
