Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY
The Intern role within the organization will take on projects from initiation to completion during the extent of their time with the team. The successful candidate will have visibility across many functional groups (engineering, operations, quality, etc.) and will continuously support to optimize safety, manufacturing processes, laboratory standard operating procedures, and assist with quality improvement projects.

Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Provide day to day support for monitoring, optimizing, and maintaining the laboratory.
  • Perform routine testing on raw materials, in-process, and finished materials using analytical instrumentation and wet chemistry methodologies.
  • Perform non-routine testing in support of process and chemistry troubleshooting.
  • Perform instrument validations and calibrations.
  • Calculate chemical adjustments for in-process material.
  • Record observations, draft technical reports, and present to internal audiences.
  • Prepare product and raw material samples for shipment to other Veolia laboratories.
  • Actively participate in Laboratory Standard Operating Procedure Reviews.
  • Provide data analysis and interpretation of analytical results.
  • Help research chemical reactions.
  • Perform other duties as required by management.
  • Comply with all Veolia Company and HSE procedures and policies.

Specific Projects (subject to changes based on needs to facility):
  • Assist in the execution of Management of Change (MOC) projects relating to Quality and Laboratory.
  • Conduct bench-scale chemistry experiments under the guidance of the Lead Chemist.
  • Learn and support QC testing
  • Formalize site Laboratory Instrument Calibration Program.
  • Final presentation to be presented to site leadership at the end of Fall Semester presenting h/her learning experience, and detailed scope of project.

  • Learn how to design and develop technical solutions to achieve business objectives and how to test your ideas.
  • Work independently - learn how to plan things out carefully.
  • Learn how to apply the acquired knowledge and skills in a practical situation.
  • Become acquainted with real-life problem solving. Apply chemistry principles in the chemical manufacturing setting.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:
  • Currently enrolled in an accredited University Degree Program (preferably junior or senior) OR Bachelors in Science in Chemistry
  • Pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree. Preferred areas of study: Chemistry
  • 3.0 overall GPA or higher
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Word)

Internship Duration Fall 2024

Reporting Structure:
  • Reports to the Production Quality Manager
