Key Responsibilities:
What a Patient Admissions Specialist Does


We seek individuals who will champion the Select Medical Way, which focuses on prioritizing patient needs, enhancing community quality of life, fostering continuous improvement, delivering high-quality care, and adhering to ethical practices.

The Patient Admissions Specialist oversees the intake of referrals and coordinates admissions.

Key tasks include:

- Ensuring timely and accurate entry of every referral, admission, denial, and conversion note into the database.

- Maintaining a 0% deficiency rate to prevent holds.

- Initiating the pre-certification process and tracking for follow-up and timely processing.

- Verifying Medicare benefits and secondary/supplemental insurance plans.

- Securing authorization when additional clinical information is not required.

- Pre-admitting/Admitting patients into Med-Host and managing patient records.

- Completing admissions documentation and reviewing all patient forms with the patient or responsible party to obtain necessary signatures.

- Collecting insurance cards and confirming patient demographic information upon arrival.

- Reviewing any changes with nursing staff and completing the nursing census.

- Leading morning meetings to discuss census, budgeted numbers, etc.

- Communicating admission details such as time, bed number, physician, etc., to the hospital upon confirmation of admission.

- Conducting tours of the hospital.

Qualifications:

Essential skills include problem-solving, observational abilities, understanding group dynamics, and strong interpersonal relations, along with the capacity to work independently and prioritize tasks.

Minimum Requirements:
- Previous experience in a hospital or medical practice.

- Familiarity with medical terminology and insurance verification in a healthcare setting.

Preferred Qualifications:


- Direct experience in third-party insurance verification and knowledge of Medicare benefits application is advantageous.

- Previous roles in customer service for a health insurance provider or medical facility.

- Experience in obtaining prior authorizations.

- A High School Diploma or GED.
