Work Hours: Days, Monday – Friday, Salaried 6:30 AM - 3 PM

Your Role:

The Clinical Educator for Surgical and Procedural Services is tasked with fostering the professional growth and development of Surgical Technicians within Surgical Services. This position supports a diverse team of over 100 employees across multiple departments within the Central Florida Division. The Clinical Educator is expected to exhibit clinical excellence across various surgical and procedural specialties. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Key Contributions:

  • Utilizing educational principles and adult learning theories to guide scrub technicians, aligning all activities with the professional growth pathway from Novice to Expert. Incorporating current research and literature into all educational activities.
  • Orientation: Designing, planning, implementing, and overseeing orientation programs for new scrub technicians. Monitoring compliance with necessary documentation and evaluating the orientation process based on healthcare trends and organizational objectives.
  • Training and Role Transition: Developing, planning, implementing, and coordinating training activities for both new graduates and experienced scrub technicians. This includes coaching, performance evaluations, and growth plans in collaboration with management. Monitoring compliance with training documentation and evaluating the transition process based on healthcare trends and organizational goals.
  • Leadership: Actively engaging, communicating, and serving as a proactive change agent for departmental and organizational initiatives. Participating in recruitment and interviewing processes as needed.
  • Career Development: Facilitating and assessing career development activities and succession planning for assigned staff in partnership with unit leadership. Providing guidance on career pathways.
  • Continuing Education: Creating, planning, implementing, and coordinating systematic professional learning experiences based on needs assessments to enhance the knowledge, skills, and attitudes of assigned staff, including ongoing education and in-service training.
  • Academic Collaboration: Acting as the primary liaison with local Surgical Technology programs to foster and maintain academic partnerships. Ensuring a supportive environment for student placements and positive experiences within the department.
  • Quality Improvement: Participating in practice changes stemming from performance improvement initiatives and ensuring adherence to quality standards and departmental policies.

Qualifications:

Essential Knowledge and Skills:

  • Ability to exemplify professionalism.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills; excellent interpersonal and organizational abilities.
  • Self-motivated, creative, and proactive in developing educational programs.
  • Leadership qualities, initiative, and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Robust clinical background with the capability to analyze clinical processes and present findings effectively.
  • Proficient in aseptic/sterile techniques and knowledgeable about surgical instruments.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with individuals at all organizational levels.
  • Ability to manage complex projects independently.
  • Understanding of diverse training techniques tailored to various learning styles.

Preferred Knowledge and Skills:

  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications such as Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • Understanding of healthcare regulatory bodies.
  • Experience in scrubbing independently in at least three major surgical specialties.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Graduation from an accredited Surgical Technology program, LPN program, RN program, or equivalent military training.
  • A minimum of 8 years of experience as a scrub technician in a hospital environment.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Experience in healthcare education or training.
  • Familiarity with performance improvement frameworks and methodologies.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in a related field.

Licensure and Certification:

  • If an LPN, a current valid State of Florida or multi-state license as a Licensed Practical Nurse, or Certified Surgical Technician (CST) from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA), or Certified Operating Room Technician (CORT) from the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT), or RN license.
  • BLS certification.
