Work Schedule: Full-Time, Day Shift

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee all preparations for surgical interventions, ensuring that the operating room is equipped with the necessary instruments, equipment, and supplies. Collaborate with pre-operative nursing staff and anesthesia teams to confirm patient readiness.
  • Assist the surgical team in maintaining efficient operating room turnover times. Supervise support staff during room turnover and monitor first case start and turnover times to meet established benchmarks.
  • Implement innovative strategies to uphold high standards of quality while managing costs. Work proactively with staff to minimize waste during procedure setups. Maintain and update all Doctor Preference Cards for the specialty to ensure accuracy.
  • Evaluate capital equipment needs for the specialty and collaborate with leadership to prioritize acquisitions. Communicate effectively with physicians and surgical teams regarding product requests.
  • Assess staff performance and provide feedback to the nurse manager, taking corrective actions as necessary. Mentor and coach team members continuously to ensure competency in patient care delivery. Develop and support staff preceptors and mentors.
  • Act as a communication bridge between departments concerning orders, instrumentation, scheduling, and various surgical patient care matters.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in the role of surgical scrub, anticipating the surgeon's needs and keeping the circulating nurse informed throughout procedures. Ensure all supplies, equipment, and medications are prepared prior to surgery.

The Surgical Services Coordinator plays a pivotal role in facilitating and coordinating specialty care to ensure the safe and effective delivery of surgical services. This position leads other healthcare professionals in the unit and is instrumental in the training, orientation, and education of new staff. The Coordinator engages in performance improvement initiatives and maintains compliance with regulatory standards. This role also involves managing equipment processing and collaborating with physicians to assess equipment needs while fostering vendor relationships. Additionally, the Coordinator participates in cost analysis and supply savings efforts, functioning as an integral member of the surgical team.

Qualifications:

  • Certified Surgical Technologist (CST)
  • Completion of an accredited Surgical Technology Program
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in a Surgical Technologist role
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
