Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Development Director of Donor Relations and Stewardship to join our team at InsideHigherEd. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the development and implementation of a comprehensive donor relations and stewardship program, with a focus on building strong relationships with donors and securing significant gifts for the university.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement a strategic donor relations and stewardship plan that aligns with the university's goals and objectives.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with donors, including identifying and cultivating new donors, and stewarding existing relationships to secure repeat gifts.
  • Collaborate with development staff to identify and pursue major gift opportunities, and work closely with senior leadership to develop and implement strategies for securing significant gifts.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive donor recognition and stewardship program, including events, communications, and other activities that recognize and thank donors for their support.
  • Manage and analyze data related to donor giving and engagement, and use this information to inform development strategies and tactics.
  • Work closely with the marketing and communications team to develop and implement a comprehensive marketing and communications plan that promotes the university's development efforts and recognizes and thanks donors for their support.
Requirements
  • A minimum of seven years of experience in development, stewardship, or a related field, preferably in higher education.
  • Proven track record of securing significant gifts and building strong relationships with donors.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with a wide range of stakeholders, including donors, senior leadership, and development staff.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze data and develop effective strategies and tactics.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a strong commitment to collaboration and teamwork.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiarity with philanthropic laws and regulations, and experience working with donors to secure gifts that align with their interests and goals.
  • Experience working with development databases and software, including Raiser's Edge or similar systems.
  • Knowledge of best practices in donor relations and stewardship, and experience implementing effective recognition and stewardship programs.
