POSITION TITLE: Financial Wellness Advisor

DEPARTMENT: Financial Education Services

REPORTS TO: Financial Education Supervisor

Gesher Human Services is dedicated to fostering hope and opportunities for individuals in various aspects of life, including their professional, personal, and community engagements. Our initiatives in workforce development, mental health, and inclusivity are designed to support all residents of Metro Detroit while addressing the specific needs of the Jewish community.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Financial Wellness Advisor at Gesher Human Services will guide individuals in enhancing their comprehension of fundamental financial principles through a variety of resources, training sessions, workshops, and personalized consultations aimed at achieving financial stability.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

Mandatory:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, or a related discipline is preferred.

Preferred:

  • At least two years of experience working with first-time homebuyers and individuals with credit challenges in a professional environment, or training in housing counseling or a related field.
  • HUD Certified Housing Counselor certification is preferred (or must be obtained within six months of employment).
  • Experience with federal and state foreclosure assistance programs and loan modifications.
  • Proficient in obtaining and interpreting credit reports, including explaining credit scores and other financial details to clients. Experience in assisting clients with credit repair to prepare them for mortgage readiness.
  • Strong presentation skills and the ability to engage both teens and adults in educational and counseling settings.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to effectively interact with clients, colleagues, and the community. Strong writing skills for developing program content and status reports.
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and online databases.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Organize and facilitate seminar-style training programs at Gesher and within the community, including homebuyer education and financial literacy workshops and webinars as necessary.
  • Collaborate with community partners who possess relevant expertise to enhance training sessions and provide additional resources.
  • Respond to client inquiries in accordance with HUD's Housing Counseling Rules and Regulations.
  • Schedule one-on-one sessions with clients to address specific financial and credit management issues, and refer them to appropriate community agencies as needed.
  • Engage in community outreach activities such as presentations and fairs.
  • Build referral networks by establishing relationships with lenders, real estate agents, human service organizations, local government entities, and other professionals.
  • Provide specialized support for clients facing significant credit repair challenges or potential home foreclosure by reviewing credit reports, negotiating with creditors, and referring to external resources as necessary.
  • Document service delivery performance by compiling required reports and maintaining comprehensive client records, including demographic data, program status, and outcomes in designated databases.
  • Participate in agency committees as assigned.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Environmental conditions:

  • Moderate noise levels typical of an office environment with computers, phones, and printers.
  • Ability to work in a confined space.
  • Capacity to sit at a computer for extended periods.

Physical requirements:

  • Regularly required to stand, sit, talk, hear, and use hands and fingers for computer and telephone operations, as well as reach and kneel for equipment installation.
  • Specific vision requirements include close vision for computer work.
  • Light to moderate lifting may be necessary.

This position is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Federal Fair Labor Standards Act.
