POSITION SUMMARY
As a Property Accountant, you will collaborate closely with the Divisional Vice President to prepare, analyze, and reconcile financial data for your designated properties. Your responsibilities will include making necessary journal entries to the general ledger, ensuring that financial statements accurately represent the operational status of each property. Furthermore, you will contribute to the preparation of consolidated financial statements and maintain the corporate general ledger, alongside preparing and analyzing specialized reports.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assess and interpret financial outcomes from property operations.
- Guarantee the correct accounting of all operational activities affecting property profit and loss.
- Discover opportunities for enhancing processes; create and implement training and communication strategies to optimize financial operations.
- Confirm the accuracy of transactions processed by Community/Resort Managers by reviewing monthly property reports; prepare necessary journal entries to ensure financial statements reflect true operations.
- Support the Divisional Vice President in addressing inquiries related to monthly financial results and provide insights into variances from budget.
- Examine and reconcile specific balance sheet accounts, including cash, prepaid expenses, and accrued receivables/payables; prepare journal entries and schedules as required.
- Review and authorize all Accounts Payable invoices for correct general ledger coding and compliance with GAAP standards.
- Prepare documentation for quarterly reviews and annual audits as assigned.
- Conduct complex, multi-entity tasks involving research and reconciliation of accounting data.
- Take a proactive role in coordinating accounting-related matters across departments and develop procedures to support growth and new business initiatives.
- Establish or participate in committees to address issues; produce written guidelines on new policies and train relevant team members.
- Assist with the maintenance of the corporate general ledger and the preparation of consolidated financial statements.
- Collaborate with debt and investor relations teams to resolve property-level inquiries.
- Proactively review and identify additional accruals.
- Analyze community activities; assist in preparing community capital expenditure budgets, including reviewing overages and approving fund allocations.
- Conduct return on investment analyses for expansion projects.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Accounting, or a related field.
- At least 2 years of experience in a staff accountant position; experience in a multi-entity organization is preferred.
- Previous experience in booking expense accruals and analyzing financial results.
- Proficient knowledge of advanced bookkeeping principles and practices.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel, as well as email and internet applications.
