Job Summary

This is a challenging and rewarding opportunity to serve as counsel for the Virginia Division of Child Support Enforcement. As Assistant Attorney General, you will provide representation and advice to the Division in cases before local courts, including Fairfax County, Arlington, and Alexandria.

Key Responsibilities
  • Represent the Division of Child Support Enforcement in its mission to determine paternity and establish, modify, and enforce support obligations.
  • Litigate in state and federal courts, providing counsel and legal services to the Division.
  • Develop and maintain open communication and positive relationships with the courts, cultivating a positive attorney-client relationship with the Division.
  • Perform administrative duties, supervising legal administrative assistants as assigned.
  • Attend conferences, seminars, and continuing legal education, preparing and presenting training and informational programs as needed.
Requirements
  • Excellent litigation, organization, research, writing, and interpersonal skills are required.
  • Proficiency in time management and ability to work independently with client agency and as a team member are essential.
  • The optimal candidate will have significant litigation experience and the ability to prioritize the demands of a large caseload.
  • The candidate must be willing to travel and be admitted to the Virginia bar.
Additional Considerations

Prior experience in representing a governmental entity is preferred but not required.
