Job Summary

The Virginia Office of the Attorney General is seeking a qualified attorney to work in the Criminal Appeals Section of the Criminal Justice and Public Safety Division. This is a challenging and rewarding opportunity to serve the Commonwealth and contribute to the administration of justice.

Key Responsibilities
  • Represent the Commonwealth in criminal appeals in the Court of Appeals and Supreme Court of Virginia
  • Handle habeas corpus and other post-trial litigation at all judicial levels in both state and federal courts
  • Provide advice and assistance on other matters related to criminal law and procedure, including legislative issues before the Virginia General Assembly
Requirements

To be considered for this opportunity, applicants must have a good academic record, excellent legal writing, research, and oral communication skills, and possess superior analytical ability, objectivity, and maturity of judgment. At least one year of experience as a licensed attorney is required, and one to three years of judicial law clerk, trial, or appellate experience is highly desirable. Applicants must have graduated from an accredited law school and be admitted to the Virginia State Bar.
