Histopathology Technician I

Position Overview:

The Histopathology Technician I plays a crucial role in the preparation of tissue specimens for microscopic analysis by pathologists. This position requires a blend of independent judgment and problem-solving skills, operating under the general oversight of a supervisor or lead technician.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and process tissue samples for examination.
  • Maintain and program tissue processing equipment.
  • Execute special staining techniques and prepare various staining solutions.
  • Decalcify bone specimens and apply modified H&E staining techniques.
  • Operate automated slide and cassette printing machinery.

Qualifications:

Educational Background:

  • Associate's degree in Histotechnology is required.
  • Alternatively, an Associate's or Bachelor's degree with at least 60 semester hours, including 12 hours in biology and chemistry, alongside completion of a NAACLS accredited Histotechnology training program.
  • Equivalent military certification in histopathology may also be considered.

Experience Requirements:

  • A minimum of one year of relevant laboratory experience is essential.
  • Clinical internships as part of a NAACLS accredited Histotechnology program will count towards this experience.
  • For those without a degree or accredited program, at least one year of clinical histology experience, including six months in a relevant laboratory, is required.

Certification:

  • While not mandatory, eligibility to sit for HT (ASCP) certification is preferred.
