As a Senior Software Engineer within Sentry's Issues division, you will become part of a collaborative team of engineers dedicated to enhancing our most utilized product experience. This role carries significant responsibility; Issues serves as the primary gateway to Sentry, where various teams across the organization identify actionable problems for our clients. Your contributions will involve the development and maintenance of features such as issue search, issue categorization, and issue workflows, along with status updates and their subsequent impacts.
In this capacity, you will influence how our users engage with error data. You will work alongside various teams throughout the organization to ensure our clients continue to derive meaningful insights from their products. Proposing innovative ideas to our technical steering committee, taking ownership of specific feature sets, and advancing your technical expertise are just a few of the activities you can anticipate in this position.
Key Responsibilities- Drive high-value projects, implement quality features that promote engineering excellence, mentor junior engineers, and elevate standards across the organization.
- Collaborate with product management and the broader engineering team to define, develop, and launch new features.
- Design maintainable and scalable solutions that will shape the future of the Issues function at Sentry.
- Enhance the technical proficiency of the team through mentorship and code reviews.
- Motivated by impact and interested in working on significant initiatives.
- Enjoys cross-functional collaboration with developers and product teams.
- Appreciates engaging with an open-source community that showcases your skills.
- 7+ years of experience in developing and managing large-scale distributed systems.
- 2+ years of experience with Python and Django or a comparable web framework.
- Strong understanding and experience with distributed systems, data modeling, and making informed trade-offs.
- Proven experience in end-to-end ownership of a substantial feature or system.
- Experience in writing and presenting technical documentation.
- Mentorship and leadership experience at the team level on significant projects.
- Familiarity with Rust or other system-level programming languages is advantageous.
- Knowledge of TypeScript or JavaScript is a plus.
The anticipated salary range for this position is between $190,000 and $215,000. The actual salary will be determined based on various relevant factors, including the candidate's location, education, experience, skills, and job-related knowledge. Successful candidates will also be eligible for Sentry's employee benefit programs, which include incentive compensation, equity grants, paid time off, and health insurance coverage.
