About Us:

The Gulf of Maine Research Institute (GMRI) is committed to developing collaborative solutions to pressing oceanic challenges. Our mission focuses on enhancing the resilience of the Gulf of Maine ecosystem and supporting the communities that rely on it.

The Marine Resource Education Program (MREP) empowers stakeholders in the fishing industry to contribute their insights and experiences to the federal fisheries science and management processes. This program is conducted annually through either two 3-day workshops or a single 5-day workshop, engaging a diverse group of fishing industry participants alongside fisheries researchers and managers in a neutral environment. MREP is driven by a 'by fishermen, for fishermen' philosophy, facilitated by regional steering committees and planning teams.

The Aquaculture Project Coordinator will manage all facets of GMRI's involvement in executing and facilitating two aquaculture-centric versions of MREP. This initiative includes a field trip to a region with a thriving aquaculture sector, allowing participants to gain firsthand operational insights, followed by a 4-day management workshop focused on federal aquaculture management practices.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Facilitate Steering Committee and Planning Team Meetings:
    • Coordinate annual steering committee meetings to establish program objectives, locations, and topics.
    • Facilitate planning team discussions for field tours and management workshops.
  2. Manage Participant Application Process:
    • Draft and publicize program announcements.
    • Support the planning team in reviewing and selecting applicants.
  3. Plan and Coordinate Field Tours:
    • Collaborate with GMRI staff and local industry leaders to arrange site visits.
    • Develop detailed itineraries and manage logistics, including lodging and transportation.
  4. Support Management Workshops:
    • Finalize workshop agendas and logistics in collaboration with the operations team.
    • Coordinate with presenters and manage post-workshop activities.
  5. Contribute to MREP Metrics Tracking:
    • Collect and track stories related to MREP outcomes.
    • Assist in preparing reports and communications post-workshop.

Qualifications:

GMRI seeks a dedicated professional who aligns with MREP's mission of enhancing fishermen's engagement in fisheries science and management. The ideal candidate will recognize the importance of industry-driven initiatives and the supportive role of GMRI.

Skills Required:

  • Exceptional organizational abilities to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Strong communication skills for effective collaboration with stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of federal fisheries management and aquaculture practices.
  • Experience in event management and working with fishing industry members.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years in fisheries, aquaculture, or a related field.
  • Experience in facilitating partnerships and managing events.

Diversity and Inclusion:

GMRI is committed to equal employment opportunities and encourages diversity in the workplace.

Salary and Benefits:

GMRI offers a competitive salary and benefits package.

Application Instructions:

Interested candidates should submit a cover letter and résumé for consideration.
