GENERAL DUTIES
The IT Senior Associate is responsible for executing complex professional tasks within technology-focused fields. The role encompasses various specializations, including development, programming, technical assistance, and communication, depending on the specific needs of the Information Technology department.

Key responsibilities include diagnosing, assessing, managing, and resolving intricate projects.

These professionals are expected to exercise considerable independence and judgment, often taking lead roles on sophisticated programs or projects, and may supervise a team or unit.

IT Senior Associates should exhibit expertise in one or more technology disciplines, demonstrating sound decision-making capabilities in relevant situations and serving as a knowledgeable resource in these areas. They may also influence decisions regarding IT policies and technical standards.

LaGuardia Community College, situated in Long Island City, Queens, serves over 20,000 students each year through various degree, certificate, and continuing education programs.

As a Hispanic-Serving Institution, it offers more than 50 degrees and certificates, along with over 65 continuing education programs aimed at equipping New Yorkers with new skills and career opportunities.

As part of the City University of New York (CUNY), the College honors the legacy of Fiorello H. LaGuardia, a former NYC mayor known for his advocacy for underserved communities.

Since 1971, LaGuardia has been dedicated to enhancing the socioeconomic mobility of its students by providing access to high-quality, affordable education.


RESPONSIBILITIES
Reporting to the CUNY Administrative Systems Manager, the IT Associate will be tasked with the following duties:

  • Oversee and optimize a range of AWS services to provide cost-effective and scalable solutions for LaGuardia Community College;
  • Assist in formulating a comprehensive disaster recovery strategy, including automated backups and failover solutions;
  • Develop and review code for web applications, primarily using HTML, XML, or JavaScript;
  • Create and enhance secure web pages to meet evolving business requirements and integrate multimedia content;
  • Provide ongoing support for one or more web properties;
  • Maintain, expand, and scale the College's websites;
  • Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors regarding website direction and collaborate with web designers to align with visual design objectives;
  • Code and script applications;
  • Conduct routine site audits and perform ongoing maintenance as necessary.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma, G.E.D., or equivalent
An equivalent of ten years of experience post-high school that can be met by one of the following: ten years of full-time work experience in a computer or technology-related position; an Associate's degree plus eight years of full-time work experience in a computer or technology-related position; or a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution plus six years of full-time work experience in a computer or technology-related position.
Demonstrated proficiency in the English language.
A valid Motor Vehicle Driver's license in New York State may be required for some positions.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
Required skills include proficiency with a comprehensive suite of web development tools.

Specifically:
.NET, C#, PHP, JAVA, HTML, CSS, WordPress CMS,
PeopleSoft interfaces, particularly CUNYFirst ERP;
API development,
e-Commerce experience, SEO,
SSL and PCI-Compliance coding.
Experience in converting standard pages to responsive design across all platforms and standard browsers.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
JAVAScript, Django, SQL (JQuery, MS-SQL, MySQL)
Familiarity with PLONE CMS,
VoIP integration
Familiarity with CUNY-specific applications and services: BlackBoard LMS, BrightSpace LMS
DegreeWorks, Raisers Edge, Visual Schedule Builder,
Campus Management (Hobson's Connect/Retain), HandShake, Qualtrix Survey, Library EZproxy,
Oracle Identity Manager, Shibboleth, LDAP, and MS-OFFICE365.

Understanding of search engine optimization (SEO) practices.
Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
Solution-oriented with advanced programming skills.
Capability to troubleshoot and enhance web pages for security and responsiveness.
Familiarity with network diagnostics and analytical tools.
Stay informed about emerging technologies and industry trends, applying them to operations and activities.

COMPENSATION
Salary $91,298

BENEFITS
CUNY provides a comprehensive benefits package to employees and eligible dependents based on job title and classification. Employees are also offered pension and Tax-Deferred Savings Plans. Part-time employees must meet a weekly or semester work hour criteria to qualify for health benefits. Health benefits are also extended to retirees who meet the eligibility criteria.
