Job Summary

We are seeking a motivated and skilled Registered Veterinary Technician or Senior Veterinary Assistant to join our Critical Care team as a Veterinary Technician - Critical Care Specialist. This role will provide specialized care and treatment to hospitalized patients requiring intensive monitoring, working collaboratively with veterinarians and fellow technicians to ensure high-quality patient care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Triage incoming patients and record histories and SOAP notes
  • Provide nursing care to critically ill patients, ensuring consistent evaluation and monitoring
  • Demonstrate proficiency in advanced hospitalization care and continuous rate infusions (CRIs)
  • Perform in-house laboratory procedures and skillfully place intravenous (IV) catheters
  • Conduct accurate and detailed patient rounds and obtain temperature, pulse, and respiration (TPR) measurements
  • Recognize situations requiring immediate attention from a veterinarian and act as an advocate for both the patient and the client
Requirements
  • High school diploma
  • Clinical experience in the veterinary industry as a Registered Veterinary Technician, or 3 consecutive years of Veterinary Assistant experience in an Emergency Room/Critical Care Unit setting
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with staff and clients, demonstrating tact, patience, and professional courtesy while maintaining confidentiality and discretion
  • Proficiency in mathematical calculations for drug doses, CRIs, client invoices, estimates, and other related calculations
  • Hold or obtain the California Veterinary Assistant Controlled Substance Permit (VACSP) within 60 days of hire or transfer into the role (waived if a valid CA-RVT license is held)
Work Schedule
  • Full Time
  • 4/10 schedule
  • Flexibility required, including some holidays or weekends
  • Overnight shift with $5 paid differential
