Position Summary: The Wastewater Technician/Maintenance Mechanic I plays a crucial role in managing wastewater operations, ensuring the production of clean water, and performing mechanical and chemical troubleshooting. This position also involves planning, executing, and overseeing a variety of general maintenance tasks to install, maintain, and repair production machinery and associated equipment across various departments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Calibrate and repair diaphragm pumps and other mechanical components.
  • Manage sample bottle switching and programmed sampler adjustments as necessary.
  • Conduct mechanical and chemical troubleshooting of the wastewater system.
  • Maintain chemical inventory, including regular checks and replacements.
  • Utilize computer systems to generate periodic flow and pH charts.
  • Perform routine cleaning and maintenance of filter presses.
  • Oversee sludge removal processes.
  • Maintain detailed logs of routine and unusual operational conditions.
  • Assist municipal and contracted technicians during audits and sample collections, coordinating hazardous waste management.
  • Operate all wastewater treatment and related equipment efficiently.
  • Respond to maintenance service requests promptly.
  • Utilize the Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) system for thorough maintenance record-keeping.
  • Carry out scheduled preventative maintenance tasks as assigned.
  • Disassemble machinery to assess issues, repair or replace damaged components, and reassemble as needed.
  • Perform mechanical adjustments to align production machinery and newly installed parts accurately.
  • Demonstrate basic skills in plumbing and carpentry, including constructing workbenches and office partitions, along with simple pipefitting and painting tasks.
  • Work with various machines and hand tools, requiring familiarity with the machinist trade.
  • Exhibit detailed knowledge in plumbing, carpentry, welding, and general maintenance, with the ability to recommend modifications to machinery.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area, adhering to safety regulations while executing various related duties.
  • Perform additional tasks as required or directed.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • 0-3 years of experience in an industrial maintenance environment.
  • Ability to obtain a Wastewater License Grade 2 within 90 days.
  • Familiarity with wastewater theory and operational practices.
  • Knowledge of wastewater equipment, including pumps and valves.
  • Proficient in repairing and maintaining wastewater systems.
  • Ability to work safely with hazardous materials.
  • Strong planning skills for wastewater operations to support production effectively.
  • Proficiency with standard mechanic's hand tools and power tools.
  • Willingness to learn and advance through mechanic levels.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, particularly Outlook.
  • Ability to interpret technical repair manuals.
  • Experience using the EAM system for documenting maintenance requests.
  • Strong customer service orientation.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills across all organizational levels.
  • Capability to operate industrial power equipment such as fork trucks and scissor lifts.
