Aircraft Maintenance Specialist Job Description

Amentum is seeking a highly skilled Aircraft Maintenance Specialist to join our team. As an Aircraft Maintenance Specialist, you will be responsible for maintaining and repairing aircraft structures and structural components of moderate difficulty.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Maintenance and Repair: Maintain and repair aircraft components, including flight controls, engines, hydraulics, pneumatics, fuel systems, and mechanical components.
  • Component Installation and Removal: Remove and install aircraft subsystem assemblies and components, such as engines, rotors, transmissions, mechanical flight controls, and their components.
  • Troubleshooting and Diagnosis: Apply technical knowledge of airframe and power plant systems to determine equipment malfunctions and apply required expertise to restore equipment condition and operation.
  • Technical Documentation: Interpret technical documentation, such as aircraft technical manuals, maintenance information, blueprints, or manufacturers' manuals, and action messages to solve moderate to complex problems.
  • Safety and Quality: Safely prepare aircraft for inspections and maintenance checks and services, and perform scheduled inspections and assist in performing special inspections.
  • Tool and Equipment Maintenance: Use and perform operator maintenance on tools, special tools, and aircraft ground support equipment.
Requirements:
  • Education and Experience: Three years of aviation maintenance experience, three years of rotary wing aircraft experience, and two years on the assigned Mission Design Series (MDS). All experience must be within the six most recent years.
  • Knowledge and Skills: Thorough knowledge of aircraft mechanical component troubleshooting, diagnosing problems, repair procedures, and replacement of parts; broad knowledge of aircraft sheet metal/structural modifications and repair; basic knowledge of electrical theory; and thorough knowledge of aircraft unique tools, such as test equipment, torque wrenches, dial indicators, micrometers, sheet metal brakes, and sheers.
  • Certifications and Licenses: A valid up-to-date A&P license is preferred but not required. All mechanics assigned to perform maintenance on FAA-certified aircraft must meet FAA requirements.
  • Clearance and Security: Must be able to obtain and maintain a NACI(T1) Public Trust Security Clearance and facility credentials/authorization. US Citizenship is required for facility credentials/authorization to work at this facility.
Physical Demands:
  • Lifting and Carrying: Frequently lifts parts and equipment up to 25 pounds; occasionally lifts objects up to 50 pounds.
  • Work Environment: Work is performed in a shop environment that is moderately lighted, heated, and ventilated. Is exposed to disagreeable fumes and to cuts and bruises from using tools in close places and hazards of moving vehicles, such as forklifts, in the shop area.
