Position Overview:

The Field Engineer (FE) operates under the guidance of the Superintendent, expected to utilize sound judgment and discretion in making recommendations, implementing policies, and managing a variety of field-related tasks. This role serves as a preparatory step towards becoming an Office Engineer or Project Engineer. The primary objective is to assist the Superintendent in effective field management. The position demands a significant level of responsibility, persistence, problem-solving skills, and a positive attitude, as the FE is accountable for the majority of project layout, supervision of trade workers and subcontractors, as well as safety and quality control measures. While the majority of the Field Engineer's duties occur on-site, some responsibilities will require engagement in the field office. This role is considered safety-sensitive.

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Architecture, or Construction Management.
  • Possession of a valid Driver's License.
  • Proficiency in computer software including Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, Prolog, Primavera, and AutoDesk Suite.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous internships within the construction sector are advantageous but not mandatory.
  • Experience in project layout (surveying) in alignment with design and contract specifications.
  • Ability to verify the accuracy and adequacy of concrete forms prior to concrete placement.
  • Conduct production trend analysis for work quantities and report for scheduling and cost control.
  • Support quality control, site safety initiatives, and coordination of trade partners as directed by the project superintendent.
  • Manage material deliveries by assessing material needs in advance and monitoring delivery status, including inspection of delivered materials for quantity and quality.
  • Assist foremen and trade partners in interpreting plans and specifications.
  • Oversee trade partners and direct workforces to gain supervisory experience.
  • Engage in jobsite safety meetings and conduct weekly safety audits.
  • Collaborate with the VDC team on scope of work, execution plans, and deliverables related to field operations.
