Position Overview:

The Field Engineer (FE) operates under the guidance of the Superintendent, expected to utilize judgment and discretion in making recommendations, implementing policies, and addressing a variety of field-related matters. This role serves as a preparatory step towards becoming an Office Engineer or Project Engineer. The primary responsibility of the FE is to assist the Superintendent in managing field operations effectively. This position demands a significant level of responsibility, problem-solving skills, and a positive attitude, as the FE oversees project layout, supervises trade workers and subcontractors, and manages safety and quality control.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in project layout (surveying) to ensure compliance with design and contract specifications.
  • Verify the accuracy and adequacy of concrete forms prior to concrete placement.
  • Conduct production trend analysis for work quantities and report findings for scheduling and cost control.
  • Support quality control, site safety initiatives, and coordination of trade partners as directed by the project superintendent.
  • Oversee material deliveries, ensuring alignment with project requirements and inspecting for quality and condition.
  • Facilitate communication between foremen and trade partners regarding plans and specifications.
  • Direct and oversee trade partners and labor crews to gain supervisory experience.
  • Participate in jobsite safety meetings and conduct weekly safety audits.
  • Collaborate with the VDC team on scope of work, execution plans, and deliverables related to field operations.

Position Requirements:

  • A 4-year degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Architecture, or Construction Management.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, Prolog, Primavera, and AutoDesk Suite.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous internships in the construction sector are advantageous but not mandatory.
  • Experience in project layout and surveying.
  • Ability to perform quality checks on construction forms and embedded items.
  • Experience in production trend analysis and reporting.
  • Familiarity with site safety protocols and quality control measures.
  • Experience in coordinating material deliveries and inspections.
  • Participation in jobsite safety initiatives.
