Senior Finance Officer

The Senior Finance Officer possesses a robust background in financial management, accounting practices, journal entries, reclassifications, and auditing, with a particular focus on SEFA (Schedule of Expenditures of Federal Awards) audits. This role requires experience in billing for government grants and a strong command of technical accounting skills, complemented by exceptional abilities in time management, meticulous attention to detail, and a proactive approach to continuous professional development.

  • Under the guidance of the Senior Director of Finance and Planning, accountable for the comprehensive financial oversight of the organization.
  • Collaborates with the Associate Director of Finance and Planning to ensure the timely and accurate monthly invoicing of all grants and contracts in line with funder specifications.
  • Guarantees the prompt and precise submission of invoices, fostering timely payments from funding sources.
  • Supports the Senior Director and CFO in formulating the Annual Agency Budgets and conducting periodic (monthly or quarterly) financial forecasts.
  • Assists the Senior Director in managing program and agency budgets to optimize revenue while identifying potential areas for improvement and cost reduction.
  • Employs financial modeling techniques to project financial scenarios and forecasts, presenting potential outcomes to the CFO and/or management team to avert financial challenges, propose solutions, and enhance the agency's financial health.
  • Collaborates with Program and Administrative Directors to drive ongoing enhancements in financial management relative to budgets.
  • Conducts monthly financial evaluations with each Director and prepares reports for submission to the CFO and senior management team.
  • Works alongside the Senior Controller to ensure the accuracy of financial records and compliance with financial regulations and accounting standards.
  • Partners with the Development department and Senior Controller to ensure that restricted private donations are utilized in accordance with donor stipulations, and that financial reports to funders are both accurate and timely.
  • Assists the Senior Director in coordinating all compliance audits from both public and private entities.
  • Collaborates with the Senior Controller and their team as necessary to ensure successful financial audits for both the organization and its affiliates.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Expertise in contract billing, exceptional attention to detail, and proficiency in Excel.
  • Prior experience in grants management and/or financial planning and budgeting is advantageous.
  • Experience in budget and contract monitoring is a plus.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Suite applications and Outlook.
  • Outstanding time management capabilities and the ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong communication skills are essential.

Educational Background:

  • A Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or related fields is required; an MBA is preferred.
