The Retail Leadership Trainee (RLT) program is structured to provide a comprehensive training journey that covers all facets of store management responsibilities. The RLT will step into vacant supervisory, assistant manager, and managerial positions, thereby strengthening the talent pool within the retail sector. The RLT will support the store manager in overseeing the complete store operations and will be equipped to manage the store effectively in their absence.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the overall management of store operations, directly overseeing retail functions as designated by the Store Manager.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service and serve as a role model for staff.
  • Address customer inquiries and issues in a fair and equitable manner to ensure satisfaction.
  • Recruit, train, inspire, and discipline team members.
  • Provide daily guidance and direction through a collaborative management approach, fostering a teamwork environment to meet customer needs.
  • Complete necessary administrative tasks promptly, including sales and labor reports, scheduling, performance reviews, timecard management, and assisting with budget and inventory planning.
  • Encourage and resolve employee relations issues while upholding company policies and procedures.
  • Utilize a Windows-based POS system to ensure all transactions, including deliveries and transfers, are processed swiftly and accurately, troubleshooting any POS or PC issues as they arise.
  • Train seasonal staff on complex procedures and adapt to significant seasonal fluctuations in business activities.
  • Anticipate and maintain inventory levels to align with store sales goals and adjust to merchandising changes.
  • Participate actively in merchandising, ordering, stocking, display, and inventory management.
  • Plan and implement operational and staffing strategies to effectively manage the store while maintaining high product quality standards.
  • Oversee the entire store's operations in the absence of the Store Manager.
  • Ensure the store's physical cleanliness and maintenance.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Store Manager.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a supervisory or management role.
  • Associate's degree in Horticulture or a related field is preferred.
  • Willingness to work across various retail locations.
  • Proven ability to engage and build relationships with customers and staff.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Technical proficiency with POS systems, Windows, and Excel.
  • Knowledge of merchandising and display techniques.
  • Ability to demonstrate initiative and adaptability in a fast-paced environment.
  • Competence in performing basic mathematical calculations commonly used in retail.
  • High energy level with the capability to lead, train, delegate, and motivate staff effectively.
  • Flexibility to work a varied schedule, including evenings, weekends, and increased hours during peak seasons.
  • MNLA Certification and familiarity with garden and/or floral products are advantageous.
  • Experience in a multi-unit setting is a plus.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to use a telephone and POS system, perform repetitive movements, and stand for extended periods.
  • Capable of moving freely around the store, bending, twisting, reaching, and occasionally climbing a ladder.
  • Regularly lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Engage directly on the sales floor for the majority of the shift.
  • Read written instructions and reports on paper and computer screens.
  • Utilize two-way radios for communication.
  • Perform stocking and sales functions indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Push and pull merchandise using appropriate equipment.

Schedule:

Availability to work a flexible schedule, including evening shifts and weekends during non-peak periods.

This position may require hours that exceed 8 hours per day and/or 40 hours per week during peak times and holidays.
