The Team

The Collections team at Upstart is on the lookout for a candidate to fill the role of Lead Collections Operations Strategist. This position involves overseeing Upstart's collections team and managing processes related to delinquent accounts, collaborating with both internal and external partners.

A successful Lead Collections Operations Strategist will possess strategic and analytical thinking skills, be solutions-focused, and have a passion for refining processes and workflows. The ideal candidate is self-driven, an exceptional planner, exercises sound judgment, and approaches challenges with a positive attitude. Effective communication and the ability to build strong relationships with vendors and internal teams are essential.

Travel Requirements

As a digital-first company, most responsibilities can be fulfilled remotely. However, occasional travel to vendor sites and quarterly supplier visits may be required.

How You'll Make an Impact:

  • Collaborate with senior leadership to define and implement collections strategies that align with company objectives.
  • Work alongside Collections and Product Leadership to establish a comprehensive outreach program for Upstart's loan portfolio, aimed at supporting borrowers and optimizing returns.
  • Utilize industry knowledge to assess, design, and adapt collections approaches for borrowers facing financial difficulties, ensuring they receive tailored solutions.
  • Employ performance analytics to derive insights that enhance training, quality, and operational efficiency.
  • Set and monitor performance targets based on industry standards and historical data.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategy Development: Formulate and execute effective debt collection strategies to maximize recovery and minimize losses.
  • Data Analysis: Analyze collection metrics and trends to pinpoint areas for enhancement and implement best practices.
  • Team Leadership: Identify and nurture talent to foster a high-performing, accountable organization.
  • Operational Management: Supervise daily collections operations, ensuring efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Compliance and Risk Management: Ensure adherence to relevant laws and regulations concerning debt collections.
  • Relationship Management: Cultivate strong relationships with key stakeholders, including agencies and borrowers.

What We're Looking For:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • 7+ years of experience in debt collections or operations, with at least 5 years in a leadership capacity.
  • In-depth knowledge of debt collection laws and regulations.
  • Experience with debt collection software and tools, along with familiarity with industry best practices.
