Waymo is at the forefront of autonomous driving technology, dedicated to becoming the most reliable driver. Originating from the Google Self-Driving Car Project in 2009, Waymo has concentrated on developing the Waymo Driver—The World's Most Experienced DriverTM—to enhance mobility access while preventing the tragic loss of lives due to traffic accidents. The Waymo Driver is the backbone of Waymo One, a fully autonomous ride-hailing service, and is adaptable to various vehicle platforms and product applications. With over one million rider-only trips facilitated, our technology has autonomously navigated tens of millions of miles on public roads and tens of billions in simulation across more than 13 U.S. states.
Our Product Management Team is driven by a mission to create and implement pioneering playbooks that bring fully autonomous driving technology to market. We strive to simplify complex challenges by coordinating cross-functional initiatives to advance Waymo's technology and its applications. Our approach is grounded in a deep understanding of our customers, business needs, and technological capabilities. We value humility in our work, collaboration in problem-solving, and ambition in our vision for the future.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with a team of exceptional data scientists, engineers, and machine learning experts to assess the safety of our driving behaviors through data-driven methodologies.
- Establish a strategic roadmap for innovating and scaling critical evaluation methodologies to determine software readiness for Rider Only.
- Integrate simulation realism initiatives (including sensor simulation and simulated agents) with evaluation processes to enhance insights and learning from simulations.
- Engage closely with Onboard and Systems Engineering teams to assess our compliance with regulations and community impact.
- Create policies and frameworks for evaluating our driving performance on both surface streets and highways.
- 8+ years of experience in product management.
- Background in analytical or machine learning roles, collaborating with data scientists.
- Proven track record of innovation over extended timeframes in a highly uncertain and technical environment.
- Ability to conceptualize long-term product visions and translate them into actionable plans with cross-organizational alignment.
- Master's degree in a technical or engineering discipline, or an MBA, or equivalent practical experience.
- Experience in a product role where safety was paramount, working alongside System Engineering, Safety Researchers, or regulatory bodies.
- Familiarity with data infrastructure and/or cloud computing.
- Experience in the autonomous vehicle or robotics sector.
- Knowledge of vehicle traffic regulations.
- Experience liaising with regulatory agencies (DMV, CPUC, NHTSA).
Waymo offers a competitive salary range for this full-time position across various U.S. locations, with actual compensation determined by job-related factors such as work location, experience, and skills.
