Position: Lead Engineer for Silicon Validation

In this hybrid position, you will collaborate closely with a Hardware Engineering Team Lead. #LI-Hybrid

The Compute Team at Waymo is engaged in a vital and stimulating mission: delivering the computing platform that operates the autonomous vehicle's software stack. Our objectives include architecting and creating high-performance custom silicon, developing system-level compute architectures that challenge the limits of performance, power, and latency, and working alongside various teams to optimize hardware and software for peak performance. We are a diverse group seeking inquisitive and skilled individuals to contribute to one of the highest-performing automotive compute platforms globally.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute test plans for silicon bring-up, validation, and characterization.
  • Work collaboratively with chip design, design verification, emulation, and software teams to ensure readiness for silicon arrival.
  • Conduct hands-on bring-up and validation in the laboratory; drive test execution to completion with cross-functional teams.
  • Perform functional validation of subsystems and IPs such as PCIe, LPDDR, MIPI, etc.
  • Lead silicon debugging efforts, providing root-cause analysis and driving closure.
  • Assist in the development of ATE and SLT, overseeing hardware deployment and software integration for SLT.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of practical experience in silicon bring-up and validation.
  • Strong grasp of digital IC and chip architecture.
  • Proficiency with laboratory equipment and debugging tools, including oscilloscopes, protocol analyzers, JTAG debuggers, etc.
  • Competence in scripting (Python preferred) for test automation, data collection, post-processing, and reporting.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within cross-functional and cross-site teams, along with strong communication and documentation skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • 3+ years of experience leading post-silicon projects, including planning, execution, and team coordination.
  • Experience in building and maintaining silicon validation infrastructure, including test benches, automation frameworks, and data analysis tools.
  • Experience in pre-silicon Design Validation or emulation; leveraging pre-silicon test cases for post-silicon validation.
  • Experience in electrical validation and compliance testing of high-speed SerDes or memory interfaces.
The expected base salary range for this full-time position across various U.S. locations is outlined below. Actual starting pay will depend on job-related factors, including specific work location, experience, relevant training and education, and skill level. Waymo employees are also eligible to participate in Waymo's discretionary annual bonus program, equity incentive plan, and comprehensive Company benefits program, subject to eligibility requirements.

Salary Range:

$217,000 - $275,000 USD.
