Our Mission

Within the Driver Understanding and Evaluation (DUE) team at Waymo, our mission is to develop rich metrics for understanding the behavior of the Waymo Driver in the real world.

Your Responsibilities
  • Lead the Development and Optimization of Computer Vision Algorithms

As a Staff Software Engineer, you will lead the development and optimization of the latest computer vision algorithms and machine learning models to enhance human-led evaluation and introduce automation for high-volume workflows.

Guide Technical Direction and Provide Technical Inputs

You will guide technical direction and provide technical inputs and guidance to the team, ensuring that our solutions are scalable, resilient, and observable.

Collaborate with Multiple Teams

You will collaborate with multiple teams, including Prediction, Planning, Research, PMs, and TPMs, to achieve important strategic efforts and drive business outcomes.

Your Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or Related Field

You must have a B.S. in Computer Science, Robotics, Machine Learning, or a similar technical field of study, or equivalent practical experience.

Coding Experience in C++ or Python

You must have coding experience in C++ or Python and a strong understanding of software development principles and practices.

Experience in Computer Vision and Machine Learning

You must have 5+ years of hands-on experience in computer vision and machine learning projects, including experience with ML frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, and Hugging Face's transformers.

Experience with Large-Scale Data Processing

You must have experience with large-scale data processing and building scalable, resilient, and observable distributed systems.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Masters Degree in Computer Science or Related Field

A M.S. degree in Computer Science or a related quantitative field with a specialization in machine learning is preferred.

Experience with MLOps and Model Performance Optimization

Experience with building tools for applied machine learning, including MLOps, evaluation/validation techniques, and model performance optimization, is preferred.

Experience with Distributed Systems

Experience with building scalable, resilient, and observable distributed systems is preferred.

The expected base salary range for this full-time position across US locations is listed below. Actual starting pay will be based on job-related factors, including exact work location, experience, relevant training and education, and skill level.

Salary Range: $226,000 - $286,000 USD
