Job Overview

Position Objective

The primary responsibility is to manage the retail outlet to achieve optimal sales and profitability while adhering to company policies and procedures.

Job Responsibilities

The Store Manager is expected to dedicate the necessary hours to effectively run the store in accordance with company guidelines and the directives of their supervisors. A standard workweek typically ranges from 48 to 52 hours in shopping center locations and a minimum of 45 hours in urban settings. All hours worked must be accurately reported on the timesheet. Any leave, including vacation, sick leave, or bereavement, requires prior approval from the District Manager, along with the necessary personnel documentation sent to the Personnel Department. The Store Manager is responsible for submitting both monthly and weekly schedules to the District Manager in writing, ensuring they are received no later than the Saturday before the start of the workweek. Any changes to this schedule must be pre-approved by the District Manager.

Key Duties

1) Foster a friendly and engaging relationship with customers, ensuring exceptional service and assistance.

2) Successfully complete the Management Training Program.

3) Recruit and train a competent Assistant Manager, with the guidance and approval of the District Manager.

4) Oversee the hiring and training of additional store staff with the support of the Assistant Manager and the District Manager's advice.

5) Seek guidance from the District Manager regarding any personnel or operational challenges or opportunities. In the absence of the District Manager, consult with the Regional Vice-President, and if both are unavailable, reach out to the Senior Vice-President of Store Operations.

6) Manage inventory shrinkage to remain within 2.5% of annual sales. Any shrinkage exceeding 3.5% for two consecutive periods, or reaching 5% or more, may lead to disciplinary action, including termination.

7) Maintain a Shrink Check Test score of 80 or higher; scores below this threshold may result in disciplinary measures, up to and including termination.

8) Enforce company safety policies diligently.

9) Cultivate a positive relationship with local law enforcement agencies and actively seek their support regarding store security matters.

10) Prepare and supervise the weekly schedule for all store personnel, ensuring operations stay within the assigned payroll budget with the Assistant Manager's assistance. Notify the District Manager of any payroll budget issues.

11) Assign tasks and ensure all employees are trained to perform their roles in accordance with company procedures.

12) Communicate company policies and procedures to all employees effectively, ensuring compliance at all times. Recognize that as the manager, you are accountable for all employees' adherence to these policies, including Store Work and Disciplinary Policies.

13) Accurately transmit payroll information in a timely manner as per policy.

14) Utilize authorized company procedures to maintain a balanced and stocked merchandise inventory, including seasonal distribution.

15) Uphold cleanliness standards throughout all areas of the store.

16) Ensure merchandise displays in all departments are clean and organized.

17) Maintain an orderly office and stockroom environment.

18) Responsible for adhering to store operating hours as directed by Senior Management at the Corporate Office.

19) Verify all merchandise receipts in accordance with company policies, reporting any discrepancies as required.

20) Supervise the pricing of all merchandise according to company standards.

21) Keep the District Manager/RVP informed of:

a. Any defective merchandise received.

b. Fast and slow-selling items.

c. Issues with direct vendor shipments.

22) Hold total responsibility for the store's cash fund and sales receipts, ensuring all cash handling and security procedures are strictly followed.

23) Ensure all reports, records, and inventories are completed accurately and in line with company policy.

24) Keep the District Manager updated on any problems or opportunities related to store equipment or building structure.

25) Notify the District Manager in advance of any absence during scheduled work hours.

26) Maintain confidentiality regarding all store sales, records, and other company information.

27) Obtain District Manager approval for all expenditures exceeding $50.00.

28) Work designated hours as required by the District Manager.

29) Perform any additional duties as assigned.

30) Responsible for the accurate and timely implementation of company programs to maximize benefits for associates and customers, including incentive plans, sales promotions, and merchandise programs.

32) Handle count bulletins, markdowns, and on-hand requests with precision and timeliness.

33) Regularly update merchandise on-hand to ensure accurate inventory levels.

34) Report deposit information daily as required by corporate.

35) Order merchandise weekly to maintain stock levels and maximize sales.

Qualifications and Skills Required

ü High School Diploma or GED

ü 3+ years of relevant experience in retail management

ü Proficient in English communication

ü Strong planning, coaching, analytical, and communication skills

ü Excellent written and verbal communication abilities

ü Team-oriented work approach

Working Conditions

ü Retail store environment requiring extended periods of standing

ü Stockroom environment subject to temperature fluctuations

ü Occasional lifting and maneuvering of merchandise and displays

ü Frequent lifting and handling of merchandise and displays

ü Exposure to dust and extreme temperatures during unloading

ü Work hours may vary, including evenings and weekends

ü Occasional use of ladders required
