Job Overview

Position Objective

The primary responsibility is to manage the store effectively to achieve optimal sales and profitability while adhering to company policies and procedures.

Job Responsibilities

The Store Manager is expected to dedicate the necessary hours to ensure the store operates successfully within the established guidelines. Typically, this entails a workweek of 48 to 52 hours for shopping center locations and a minimum of 45 hours for urban settings. Accurate reporting of hours worked is essential, and any leave must be pre-approved by the District Manager, with appropriate documentation sent to the Personnel Department. A written weekly and monthly schedule must be submitted to the District Manager, ensuring it is received by Saturday before the new workweek begins. Any changes to this schedule require prior approval.

Key Duties

  1. Foster a positive and engaging relationship with customers, ensuring excellent service and support.
  2. Complete the Management Training Program successfully.
  3. Recruit and train a qualified Assistant Manager with guidance from the District Manager.
  4. Assist in hiring and training additional store staff with the help of the Assistant Manager and District Manager's advice.
  5. Consult with the District Manager regarding any personnel or operational challenges or opportunities. In their absence, reach out to the Regional Vice-President or Senior Vice-President of Store Operations.
  6. Manage inventory shrinkage, ensuring it remains within 2.5% of annual sales, with disciplinary measures for higher rates.
  7. Maintain a Shrink Check Test score of 80 or above, with consequences for lower scores.
  8. Enforce company safety protocols.
  9. Build and maintain relationships with local law enforcement for security support.
  10. Oversee and approve weekly schedules for all store staff, ensuring operations stay within the payroll budget.
  11. Delegate tasks and ensure all employees are trained to perform their duties according to company standards.
  12. Communicate company policies to all employees and enforce adherence consistently.
  13. Accurately report payroll information in a timely manner.
  14. Utilize authorized procedures to maintain a balanced and stocked inventory, including seasonal items.
  15. Ensure cleanliness and organization throughout the store.
  16. Maintain organized displays and stockroom areas.
  17. Adhere to store operating hours as directed by senior management.
  18. Verify merchandise receipts according to company policies.
  19. Supervise pricing of all merchandise as per company guidelines.
  20. Keep the District Manager informed of any issues regarding merchandise and vendor shipments.
  21. Take full responsibility for cash handling and sales receipts, ensuring compliance with security procedures.
  22. Complete all reports and inventories accurately as per company policy.
  23. Notify the District Manager of any equipment or structural issues within the store.
  24. Inform the District Manager in advance of any absences during scheduled hours.
  25. Maintain confidentiality regarding all store sales and company information.
  26. Obtain District Manager approval for all expenditures exceeding $50.
  27. Work designated hours as required by the District Manager.
  28. Perform any additional duties as assigned.
  29. Implement company programs accurately and timely to maximize benefits for associates and customers.
  30. Exhibit positive leadership qualities including professionalism, communication skills, and sound judgment.
  31. Handle markdowns and inventory requests accurately and promptly.
  32. Regularly update inventory levels to ensure accuracy.
  33. Report deposit information daily as required.
  34. Order merchandise weekly to maintain stock levels and maximize sales.

Authority

  1. Hire store personnel in accordance with company policy, subject to District Manager approval.
  2. Terminate employees after consulting with the District Manager or Regional Operations Manager.
  3. Conduct annual performance evaluations and recommend pay adjustments.
  4. Exercise discretion in authorizing refunds or exchanges that do not strictly adhere to company policy, prioritizing customer satisfaction.
  5. Utilize good judgment in enforcing policies regarding transactions.

Qualifications and Skills Required

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 3+ years of relevant experience in retail management
  • Effective communication skills in English
  • Strong planning, coaching, analytical, and communication abilities
  • Proficient written and verbal communication skills
  • Team-oriented approach

Working Conditions

  • Retail environment requiring extended periods of standing
  • Stockroom environment with temperature fluctuations
  • Occasional lifting and maneuvering of merchandise
  • Exposure to dust and extreme temperatures during unloading
  • Variable scheduled hours, including evenings and weekends
