About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Director, Research Oncology to join our team at Bayer. As a key member of our Research and Early Development (RED) Oncology team, you will play a strategic role in guiding research and drug discovery programs in the oncology pipeline.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead multiple drug discovery programs in Research and Early Development (RED) Oncology from target identification up through support of early clinical development.
  • Contribute to and support research strategy in a specific area of scientific expertise pertaining to Cancer Biology to support the drug development strategy of RED Oncology.
  • Responsible for matrixed management and strategic coaching of peers and other colleagues in RED Oncology to support multiple drug development programs.
  • Support the career development for and scientific strategic coaching of colleagues in Research Oncology.
  • Collaborate with other R&D functions and support cross-team and cross-site activities.
  • Implement back-translational strategies at the interface of drug discovery and clinical development.
  • Contribute to key documentation and presentations for projects moving through internal review stage gates and regulatory submissions.
  • Work across portfolio assets to drive an integrated strategy with indication, MOA, or modality focus.
  • Maintain and extend a network with external partners from academia, contract research organizations, and medical experts.
  • Foster creativity and motivation between scientists.
Requirements
  • PhD in Cancer Biology or related field.
  • Demonstrated success across multiple phases of oncology drug discovery, with a significant track record of successful advancement of oncology therapeutics.
  • Experience with the discovery of therapies for biomarker-driven, selected patient populations.
  • In-depth knowledge of cancer dependency databases, data science knowledge seen as advantageous.
  • Substantial experience in design and execution of early-stage research program(s) to identify and validate novel targets.
  • Experience in strategic planning, project leadership, and laboratory and budget management in a matrixed organization.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills to work across functions and within external collaborations.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills and demonstrated ability to lead complex cross-functional collaborations.
  • Desire and capacity to participate in a dynamic and fast-paced research setting.
  • Recognized scientific innovation and accomplishment evidenced by strong record of publication and conference presentations in cancer biology.
