Metro Transit Division of the Metropolitan Council is among the largest transit systems in the nation, employing over 3,000 individuals. We offer comprehensive transportation solutions through a cohesive network of buses, light rail, and commuter trains, along with resources for carpooling, vanpooling, walking, or biking in the Twin Cities.

Our Bus Maintenance Division is tasked with ensuring the safety, cleanliness, and reliability of our fleet, which includes approximately 800 buses and various support vehicles and equipment. Our operations run continuously throughout the year.

Your Role in Our Organization:
We are seeking multiple Bus Maintenance Supervisors to join our Bus Maintenance team. This role involves overseeing preventive and corrective maintenance activities during assigned shifts, providing training in various mechanical disciplines, and facilitating communication between shifts while promoting a respectful and inclusive workplace.

Note: This position requires flexibility regarding location, shift assignments, and days off, which will be determined by seniority and operational needs. Typical shifts may vary, and this posting will remain open until all positions are filled.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee mechanical operations for assigned shifts, ensuring vehicle availability for scheduled services.
  • Plan and track preventive and corrective maintenance activities.
  • Assign and review work performed by mechanical staff.
  • Identify urgent situations and make prompt decisions affecting employee and passenger safety.
  • Guide mechanics, skilled helpers, and cleaners in their tasks.
  • Create work orders and manage data entry tasks.
  • Uphold EEO and harassment-free workplace standards.
  • Communicate effectively with management regarding strategies and concerns.
  • Administer disciplinary actions and manage employee time-off requests.
  • Perform additional related duties as required.
Qualifications

Candidates must possess a combination of experience in automotive or heavy-duty vehicle maintenance, along with education in Diesel Mechanics, Automotive Service Technology, Heavy Equipment Mechanics, or a related field, including at least one year of supervisory or leadership experience:

  • High school diploma/GED with eight years of relevant experience, including one year in a supervisory role.
  • Associate's degree with six years of relevant experience, including one year in a supervisory role.
  • Bachelor's degree or higher with four years of relevant experience, including one year in a supervisory role.
License Requirement: A valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record is required.
Preferred Skills:
  • Supervisory experience in a related field within the last ten years.
  • Experience in training staff on mechanical systems.
  • Technical experience with heavy-duty vehicles and fleet coordination.
  • Ability to diagnose electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Familiarity with contract interpretation and administration.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Work Environment
