Position Overview:

Having established a stronghold in the residential security sector, CPI is now poised to broaden its reach into the commercial domain. The organization is in search of a seasoned Vice President of Commercial Sales & Business Development who will spearhead growth initiatives across the small and medium business (SMB) landscape, along with select vertical markets. This executive-level position encompasses oversight of the entire Commercial sales division within CPI's operational territory, with the role being based in Charlotte, NC.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee overall commercial revenue generation, ensuring profitability and cash flow.
  • Develop and implement business strategies targeting CPI's identified commercial markets, including:
    • Small business sector.
    • Core commercial and mid-market segments.
    • Regional accounts and select national accounts.
    • Specific vertical markets (e.g., education, municipal, religious organizations).
    • Support the strategy for CPI's entry into Software as a Service (SAAS) offerings.
  • Collaborate with marketing and sales operations to quantify market opportunities across various geographic regions.
  • Work alongside the Executive Committee to set ambitious yet achievable production and margin targets.
  • Continuously refine and enhance sales processes for optimal performance.
  • Lead the development of the entire commercial organization by:
    • Assessing current Commercial leaders and sales personnel.
    • Aligning talent for maximum effectiveness.
    • Partnering with HR to recruit and fill necessary roles.
  • Exhibit strong leadership by:
    • Setting a positive example for the commercial sales team.
    • Building respect and credibility within the broader organization.
    • Assisting senior executives in representing the company within the community.
  • Collaborate closely with Solutions, GSM, and Operations teams to ensure the relevance and profitability of offerings that resonate with customers.

Qualifications:

Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Robust business acumen with an understanding of the commercial sales team's impact on overall performance.
  • Ability to influence and collaborate effectively with various functions including sales operations, solutions management, marketing, finance, HR, and field operations.
  • Capability to articulate the benefits of complex technological solutions to diverse audiences.
  • In-depth knowledge of the security systems industry, including products, services, and technologies.
  • Exceptional communication, presentation, and negotiation skills.
  • Strong skills in collaboration, delegation, and team motivation.
  • High level of integrity in all professional interactions.

Experience Requirements:

  • Minimum of 10 years in commercial sales and sales management within a regional or national security systems provider.
  • Experience in estimating, designing, and proposing integrated solutions as well as standard packages.
  • Proven track record of leading a similarly sized organization with multiple managers or directors.
  • Experience in a multi-location and functional matrix organization is essential.
  • Ability to manage the complexities associated with multi-location regional and national accounts.
  • Demonstrated success as an organizational leader with a clear narrative of achievements.
  • Results-oriented with a history of documented success.
  • Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, high-volume transaction environment.
