About the Role

This is a key position within the Dining Services department at Knute Nelson, responsible for assisting in the daily supervision of the team and ensuring the delivery of high-quality food services to our residents.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervision and Leadership: Assist the Culinary Supervisor in supervising personnel, including interviewing, hiring, training, and evaluating staff members. Provide day-to-day work direction and problem-solving as issues arise.
  • Scheduling and Operations: In the absence of the Culinary Supervisor, assist in creating weekly employee schedules to ensure production and service coverage. Coordinate with team members to cover absences and ensure seamless service delivery.
  • Purchasing and Inventory Management: Utilize online ordering systems to source and purchase food and supplies within the assigned housing community. Monitor inventory levels and communicate quality issues with vendor representatives.
  • Food Production and Preparation: Monitor daily workflow and assign preparation tasks to balance food production among team members. Prepare foods using methods that maintain nutrition, flavor, appearance, tenderness, and quality.
  • Food Safety and Sanitation: Ensure safe food handling and preparation practices, including proper storage, serving, and cleaning of food contact surfaces. Maintain accurate temperature records and checklists for holding and storing equipment.
  • Other Duties: Perform other duties as assigned by the Culinary Supervisor, including assisting with special events, menu planning, and staff development opportunities.
Requirements
  • Education and Experience: High school diploma or equivalent, with a minimum of two years of experience working in a kitchen or food service operation, preferably in a healthcare or senior dining setting.
  • Certifications and Training: Completion of a state-approved food safety course is strongly preferred.
  • Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Ability to work effectively with a variety of staff and residents, with differing values, attitudes, capabilities, and dispositions.
  • Physical Demands: Ability to physically perform the duties required by the position, including standing, walking, and lifting.
  • Language Skills: Required to have the ability to read, write, and speak English well enough to communicate with staff, residents, and visitors.
