KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Evaluates patient health conditions, including overall wellness and adherence to treatment plans, while determining suitable diagnostic and therapeutic interventions.
  2. Delivers both acute and chronic care to patients, which includes taking medical histories, conducting physical examinations, monitoring treatment regimens, administering injections and medications, and performing wound suturing.
  3. Manages patient inquiries and assesses health concerns effectively.
  4. Responds to medical emergencies, including performing CPR when necessary.
  5. Records patient information and care provided in medical records, while maintaining departmental statistics. Utilizes computer systems for data entry and retrieval.
  6. Provides education to patients and their families as needed, ensuring continuity of care.
  7. Collaborates with other healthcare professionals as required.
  8. Upholds patient confidentiality at all times.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

A Bachelor’s degree is required, with a Master’s degree preferred. Completion of an AMA accredited physician assistant program or an approved nurse practitioner program is essential.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

A minimum of one year of experience as a physician assistant is preferred, ideally in a clinical environment. Alternatively, candidates with three years of professional nursing experience in a clinical setting, along with two years of nurse practitioner experience, will also be considered.

LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION:

Candidates must maintain a valid Physician Assistant license for the state of North Carolina, certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants. CPR certification is also required. Alternatively, a valid RN license for the state of North Carolina is acceptable.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  1. Comprehensive understanding of acute and chronic care protocols, medication administration, and delivering physical care according to treatment plans.
  2. Proficient in assessing patient health and accurately measuring and recording physiological and growth metrics.
  3. Familiarity with health promotion principles and techniques, along with patient education assessment methods.
  4. Skilled in gathering and analyzing physiological, socioeconomic, and emotional patient data.
  5. Capable of accurately evaluating patient issues in person or via phone, providing suitable advice, intervention, or referral.
  6. Proficient in assessing and modifying care plans based on patient changes.
  7. Ability to make informed decisions within the scope of a dependent medical practitioner.
  8. Competent in developing health education programs and materials.
  9. Ability to work collaboratively with all members of the healthcare team.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The role is primarily based in medical office and examination room settings, with frequent exposure to communicable diseases and other clinic-related conditions. Regular interaction with a diverse range of individuals is expected.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS:

The position requires standing, sitting, walking, bending, stooping, and twisting. The ability to assist in patient transfers is necessary. Occasional stress may arise from managing multiple tasks and interacting with anxious patients. A full range of motion, manual dexterity, and eye-hand coordination are essential.
