Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Registered Nurse to join our team at Iredell Memorial Hospital Incorporated. As a Registered Nurse, you will play a vital role in providing optimal quality care to our patients, consistent with our hospital's mission and nursing philosophy.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide Nursing Care
    • Prescribe nursing care, delegate nursing activities, and coordinate the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care.
  • Administer Medications
    • Administer medications safely and effectively, ensuring accurate dosing and monitoring of patient responses.
  • Prevent Hospital-Acquired Infections
    • Demonstrate safe and effective patient care skills to prevent hospital-acquired infections, including proper hand hygiene, use of personal protective equipment, and adherence to infection control protocols.
  • Initiate and Maintain IVs
    • Demonstrate safe and effective IV initiation and maintenance, including proper site selection, insertion, and management of IV lines.
  • Document Patient Care
    • Demonstrate timely and complete documentation of patient care, including accurate and concise recording of patient information, treatment plans, and outcomes.
  • Manage Time Effectively
    • Demonstrate appropriate time management skills, prioritizing tasks and managing workload to ensure efficient and effective patient care.
  • Utilize Critical Thinking
    • Utilize critical thinking skills to analyze patient data, identify potential issues, and develop effective solutions to improve patient outcomes.
  • Use Patient Care Equipment
    • Demonstrate safe and effective use of patient care equipment, including proper operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of medical devices.
  • Teach Patients and Families
    • Demonstrate effective teaching skills, educating patients and families on disease management, treatment plans, and self-care techniques.
  • Interpret Lab Values
    • Accurately interpret lab values and report abnormal results to healthcare providers, ensuring timely and effective patient care.
  • Recognize and Report Changes
    • Recognize and report changes and trends in patient condition, ensuring prompt and effective intervention to prevent adverse outcomes.
  • Adhere to Policies and Procedures
    • Adhere to hospital policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and maintaining a safe and effective work environment.
  • Complete Educational Requirements
    • Complete educational requirements and certifications, staying up-to-date with the latest evidence-based practices and guidelines in nursing care.
Core Specialty
  • Accept Responsibility and Accountability
    • Accept responsibility and accountability for all aspects of patient care within the core specialty, ensuring high-quality and safe patient outcomes.
  • Prepare for Cases
    • Consistently have all items needed for cases within the specialty, including special order items, trays, and supply items, ensuring efficient and effective patient care.
  • Set Up Instrument Trays
    • Responsible for setting up new and/or making changes to instrument trays, ensuring accurate and efficient preparation for surgical procedures.
  • Manage Inventory
    • Responsible for inventory counts, working to trade or reduce stock items no longer used within the specialty, and making suggestions for new products and equipment.
  • Update Preference Cards
    • Ensure that preference cards are always up-to-date, and that staff is knowledgeable concerning specialty supplies and equipment.
  • Liaise with Surgeons and OR Leadership
    • Act as a liaison between surgeons and OR leadership, ordering new items needed for the specialty, and communicating with staff to ensure effective and efficient patient care.
  • Meet Turnover Goals
    • Actively seek solutions to meeting turnover times within the specialty, communicating and championing turnover goals to staff.
  • Orient New Staff
    • Orient new staff to the specialty, responsible for specialty inservices of new equipment and/or supplies.
RN First Assist Duties
  • Provide Retraction
    • Provide retraction by closely observing the operative field at all times, demonstrating stamina for sustained retraction and retaining manually controlled retractors in the position set by the surgeon with regard to surrounding tissue.
  • Provide Hemostasis
    • Provide hemostasis by applying electrocautery tip to clamps or tissue in a safe and knowledgeable manner as directed by the surgeon, sponging and utilizing pressure as needed, and utilizing suctioning techniques.
  • Perform Knot Tying
    • Perform knot tying by having knowledge of the basic techniques, tying knots firmly to prevent slipping, avoiding undue friction to prevent fraying of suture, carrying the knot down to the tissue with the tip of the finger, and laying the strands flat.
  • Closure of Layers
    • Provide closure of layers by correctly approximating the layers and skin edges utilizing skin staples under the direction of the surgeon, demonstrating knowledge of different types of closure.
  • Assist with Procedure Completion
    • Assist the surgeon at the completion of the procedure by affixing and stabilizing all drains, cleaning wound, and applying dressing, and assisting with application of casts, splints, and various other immobilization devices.
  • Maintain Certifications
    • Maintain certifications, requirements, and competencies for RNFA role, ensuring ongoing education and professional development.
