Job Title: Assistant Controller

Department: Finance

Reports To: CFO

SUMMARY

The Assistant Controller plays a crucial role in steering and advocating the corporate vision, mission, and core values. This position is accountable for overseeing all financial and accounting functions within the organization. Responsibilities encompass the preparation of monthly financial statements, the development and enforcement of financial policies and procedures, and ensuring adherence to all financial regulations. This role also directs the analysis and reporting of financial data, including budgets, planning, and necessary filings and reports, while presenting insights and recommendations to senior management.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

  1. Manage Daily Operations of the Finance Department
    1. Oversee accounting practices, internal controls, and database management.
    2. Monitor accounts receivable and payable to ensure sufficient cash flow for the organization.
    3. Support local management teams in achieving key performance indicators through data analysis and advanced reporting.
  2. Prepare Financial Statements
    1. Generate comprehensive and precise financial statements.
    2. Lead efforts to enhance internal communication with staff across all levels of the organization.
    3. Coordinate with external CPA firms to finalize annual financial statements promptly, including balance sheets, income statements, cash flow statements, and relevant footnotes.
  3. Direct and Coordinate Financial Planning and Budgeting
    1. Facilitate the preparation of the annual budget.
    2. Analyze monthly operating results against the budget and report variances as part of financial statement preparation.
  4. Prepare Government and Regulatory Tax Filings
    1. Manage the preparation of Commercial Activity Tax, Sales Tax, Quarterly Estimates, Use Tax, and 5500 forms.
    2. Coordinate the annual tax return preparation with external CPA firms.
  5. Maintain Banking and Insurance Relationships
    1. Ensure timely distribution of all banking information.
    2. Engage with insurance representatives to address all requirements.
    3. Oversee debt financing and service payments with external agencies.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • At least two years of experience in an accounting role or at a CPA firm.
  • In-depth knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, and tax regulations.
  • Experience in the packaging industry is advantageous.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and analytical skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to perform well under pressure.
  • Proficiency with accounting software and financial analysis tools.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • This position does not have direct reports.
EDUCATION
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance.
