Key Responsibilities:

  • Draft, evaluate, and negotiate a comprehensive array of legal documents associated with various claims and logistics service agreements, including contracts for warehouse management and transportation across multiple transport modes.
  • Facilitate internal communication with pertinent stakeholders and engage externally with insurance brokers, carriers, third-party administrators, and legal representatives.
  • Analyze gathered data to assess the validity of claims and determine coverage and liability.
  • Provide legal counsel to internal clients for the resolution of claims and grievances.
  • Identify changes in legislation and regulations, recommending suitable actions.
  • Serve as the internal expert to interpret and clarify contracts, applicable laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures concerning claims.
  • Represent the Legal department in both internal and external meetings, effectively communicating with third-party entities such as customers, vendors, partners, outside counsel, and auditors.
  • Generate and disseminate essential reports and analyses, including claims reports and ad hoc management reports.
  • Promote adherence to legal standards and best practices throughout the organization.
  • Deliver training sessions and materials to the organization on critical legal topics.
  • Work within company protocols to review, analyze, and negotiate contracts with customers, shippers, consignees, or carriers.
  • Coordinate with External Claims Adjusters (e.g., cargo/freight forwarders, insurance carriers) to resolve claims issues.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for logistics processes and claims management.
  • Formulate, prepare, and execute claims litigation strategies, including settlement negotiations and insurance coverage considerations.
  • Work towards resolving claims files and participate in arbitrations, mediations, or trials as necessary.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Active member of the Texas bar with a good standing.
  • A minimum of 6 years of relevant legal experience, particularly in areas such as trucks/trailers, cargo/freight damages, property damages, maritime claims, disputes, and insurance.
  • Ability to produce comprehensive reports to support findings and analyses.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills; capable of conveying information clearly and understandably.
  • Positive demeanor and high energy to thrive in a fast-paced environment, maintaining urgency and composure under pressure.
  • Self-driven individual with an assertive attitude, excelling in team settings while also capable of independent work.
  • Ability to multitask and collaborate across various time zones.
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and web-based applications, as well as claims platforms.
  • Travel Requirement: Up to 10% travel within the U.S.
  • Work Arrangement: Hybrid (combination of remote work and onsite presence at the Texas office, minimum of 3 days per week).
