Logistics Counsel Job Description

Crystal Equation Corporation is seeking a highly skilled Logistics Counsel to join our team. As a key member of our legal department, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of our logistics and transportation services.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Draft and Negotiate Contracts: Develop, review, and negotiate a wide range of legal documents related to logistics services, including warehouse management agreements and transportation agreements for various modes of transportation.
  • Internal and External Communication: Collaborate with internal stakeholders and external parties, such as insurance brokers, carriers, and third-party administrators, to ensure seamless communication and resolution of claims.
  • Claims Analysis and Resolution: Analyze data to determine claim validity and coverage, and provide legal advice to internal clients for the resolution of claims and complaints.
  • Legislative and Regulatory Compliance: Stay up-to-date on legislative and regulatory changes and recommend appropriate actions to ensure compliance.
  • Subject Matter Expert: Serve as the internal subject matter expert on contracts, laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures related to claims.
  • Representation and Communication: Represent Crystal Equation Corporation in internal and external meetings, and communicate effectively with third-party bodies, such as customers, vendors, partners, and outside counsel.
  • Reporting and Analysis: Develop and distribute key reports and analyses, including claim reports and ad hoc reports for management.
  • Legal Compliance and Best Practices: Promote legal compliance and best practices across the business, and deliver training and training materials to the business on key legal areas.
  • Contract Review and Analysis: Work within company guidelines to review, analyze, and negotiate contractual agreements with customers, shippers, consignees, or carriers.
  • Claims Escalation and Coordination: Escalate and coordinate with External Claims Adjusters to resolve claims issues.
  • Standard Operating Procedures: Assist in developing and maintaining Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for logistics processes and claims.
  • Claims Litigation Strategy: Develop, prepare, and implement claims litigation strategy, including affecting settlements and insurance coverage limits.
  • Claims Resolution and Arbitration: Work toward the resolution of claims files and attend arbitrations, mediations, or trials as necessary.
Requirements and Qualifications:
  • Active Texas Bar License: Must be an active member of the Texas bar in good standing.
  • Relevant Experience: At least 6 years' relevant legal working experience, particularly in trucks/trailers, cargo/freight damages, property damages, maritime claims, disputes, and insurance.
  • Reporting and Analytical Skills: Able to produce reports to support findings and analyses.
  • Organizational and Communication Skills: Extremely organized and detail-oriented, with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Positive Attitude and Energy: Positive attitude and high energy to work in a fast-paced environment, maintain a sense of urgency, and perform with a clear head under pressure.
  • Self-Motivation and Teamwork: Self-motivated individual, assertive attitude, excel in a team-based environment yet able to work independently.
  • Customer Service and People Skills: Strong customer service, people skills, and ability to multitask and collaborate across different time zones.
  • Technical Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and web-based applications, claims platform.
  • Travel and Work Location: Up to 10% travel throughout the U.S., with a hybrid work arrangement (WFH + Onsite: TX office Min. 3 days).
