Position Overview: The General Accountant plays a crucial role in supporting the Controller and engaging with both internal and external partners to ensure that financial transactions are recorded accurately and promptly in the general ledger. This role is responsible for managing various accounting processes on a daily, monthly, and annual basis, thereby ensuring the quality and integrity of the financial reporting for CapeAbilities.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Accounting Quality and Integrity: The General Accountant is primarily accountable for the processes that ensure timely and accurate accounting.

  • Executing monthly and year-end journal entries to maintain complete and precise financial reporting.
  • Completing reconciliations for general ledger accounts, including cash, prepaid assets, investments, fixed assets, and liabilities.
  • Administering accounting for third-party residences, ensuring accurate bookkeeping and fiduciary services.

2. Cash and Payment Processing Support: This position is vital for monitoring cash flow and overseeing payment processing.

  • Monitoring daily cash account activities to support effective cash management.
  • Administering payroll and benefits payment processes, including reviewing and remitting payments to third-party administrators.
  • Managing timely disbursements for financing obligations, including mortgages and leases.
  • Ensuring accuracy in credit card purchase coding and liaising with stakeholders regarding credit card matters.

3. Tax and Compliance Support: Overseeing the timely submission of state and federal taxes.

  • Managing processes for state sales tax remittance in collaboration with relevant teams.
  • Administering federal vendor tax reporting processes.

4. Funding Support: Assisting in the management of diversified funding sources.

  • Supporting programs and development personnel with grants and cooperative agreements.
  • Assisting in the recording and reporting of pledges and donations.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Associate's degree in business or accounting preferred.
  • Minimum of three years of experience in accounting or bookkeeping, preferably in a nonprofit setting.
  • Strong proficiency in Excel and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
