Role Overview

The Associate Industrial Engineer plays a vital role in enhancing operational efficiencies, driving projects, and supporting initiatives across the facility. This position focuses on identifying optimal methods for utilizing personnel, machinery, materials, and information to achieve process enhancements. The Associate Industrial Engineer contributes to problem-solving on selected projects aimed at improving workforce efficiency, yield, waste reduction, and workplace optimization, while ensuring accurate cost standards and procedures. Collaboration with management is essential to define, develop, and implement continuous improvement projects across all plant operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Employ business analytics and industrial engineering methodologies to analyze functional statements, organizational structures, and project details to clarify worker roles and identify redundancies.
  • Establish work measurement protocols and assess work samples to create labor utilization standards.
  • Evaluate workforce usage, facility layout, and operational metrics such as production costs and schedules to optimize worker and equipment efficiency.
  • Investigate methods for enhancing worker productivity and minimizing material and utility waste through job restructuring, workflow reorganization, and equipment relocation.
  • Implement improvement strategies based on advanced technologies and industrial engineering principles to enhance operational performance and reduce waste, delays, and costs.
  • Oversee the installation of improvements, ensuring adherence to specifications and budget constraints.
  • Maintain management systems for cost analysis, financial planning, and job evaluation.
  • Establish and monitor productivity and production metrics for identified processes within the plant.
  • Analyze and recommend enhancements to existing workflows and processes to boost current capabilities.
  • Communicate any changes in work standards to management.
  • Develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for various methods and processes.
  • Manage multiple projects, ensuring timely completion within budget parameters.
  • Research technological advancements to devise cost-effective improvements to operational methods.
  • Train and mentor plant personnel on utilizing Smithfield's Management Operating System and leveraging data to enhance their operational areas.
Qualifications

To excel in this role, candidates must meet the following qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution or a combination of education and experience.
  • Preferred degree in Industrial Engineering.
  • Current college students anticipating graduation by the end of the academic year may be considered.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, along with organizational, teamwork, analytical, and adaptability skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Excellent planning, organization, and execution abilities.
  • Capability to interpret and communicate results from exposure monitoring and equipment.
  • Strong interpersonal and technical skills are essential.
  • Willingness to travel up to 25% of the time to support multiple locations.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Commitment to fostering respectful and approachable relationships while contributing to a positive work atmosphere.

  • Exposure to wet or humid conditions, extreme temperatures, and moving mechanical parts.
  • Noise levels may vary, typically moderate but can be loud in production areas.
