MedStar Health is offering a Full-Time, day shift, hybrid position within our call center. This role involves managing a significant volume of incoming calls to arrange patient appointments efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
- Welcomes and assists patients over the phone by directing inquiries and concerns to the appropriate clinical and non-clinical staff.
- Conducts initial patient intake promptly and accurately; performs updates, scanning, registration, and scheduling of both initial and follow-up appointments in accordance with insurance protocols, as well as messaging within the department's practice management system, electronic health record, or electronic medical record as required.
- Exhibits proficiency in utilizing various MedStar Health business applications to address caller needs effectively.
- Executes insurance verification to ensure the accuracy of claim submissions.
- Maintains knowledge of scheduling protocols and designated skill sets to achieve established goals for scheduling accuracy, daily call metrics, and defined individual/team objectives.
- Handles inbound calls with the aim of identifying and assessing callers' needs swiftly and accurately.
Education
- High School Diploma or GED or equivalent is required.
- Associate degree is preferred.
- Bachelor's degree in healthcare or a related field is preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in a fast-paced customer service environment, preferably in a medical office setting.
- 1-2 years of telephonic experience, typically gained in a call center, front desk reception, hospital, or medical office scheduling environment is required.
- Exceptional customer service abilities.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (including Word, Excel, and Outlook).
- Ability to navigate multiple technology platforms simultaneously while engaging with callers.
- Typing speed of 40 WPM with accuracy.
- Highly organized, process-oriented, and capable of multitasking while remaining flexible and self-motivated.
- Ability to follow protocols and assist patients without compromising safety, service quality, or efficiency.
- Consistently friendly and professional demeanor when interacting with patients and visitors.
- Ability to project a positive and professional image at all times.
- Empathetic approach to understanding and prioritizing patient needs while providing suitable solutions.
- Ability to maintain composure and focus, demonstrating compassion in high-pressure situations.
- Proven learning and decision-making capabilities.
