Summary of Role:
Fox Valley Technical College is forming a pool of qualified candidates to instruct in our Airport Rescue Firefighting (ARFF) program. This role involves delivering educational content and facilitating student learning, as well as the continuous enhancement of curriculum and instructional strategies that cater to the needs of students and employers in the ARFF field.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design, develop, and execute effective instructional methods, including alternative delivery options when necessary.
  • Support and guide students facing challenges with assignments, assessments, grades, course material, career guidance, and other academic issues.
  • Conduct research, create, and implement skills assessments before, during, and after courses, focusing on evaluating student performance.
  • Encourage student achievement through timely communication, constructive feedback, and strategies that accommodate diverse learning needs.
  • Adhere to institutional policies regarding student assessment record-keeping, timely grading, maintaining office hours for student support, etc.
  • Meet professional standards by staying current in the field and contributing to a collaborative environment across the institution.
  • Attend departmental, division, and advisory committee meetings as required.
  • Engage in relevant professional development activities such as diversity training and technology workshops.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to the college's mission, vision, and core values.


Qualifications and Experience:
  • Preferred: Airport Firefighter and Driver/Operator ARFF Certification, along with an Associate Degree in Fire Protection or a related field.
  • Preferred: Five years of experience in the Airport Rescue Firefighting sector, with at least one year within the last five years (one year of related experience may be waived with two years of post-secondary teaching experience in the relevant field).
  • Alternatively, an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides comparable knowledge.
  • Teaching or training experience is preferred.
  • State of Wisconsin Emergency Services Instructor Certification is required.
  • A valid Wisconsin Driver's license is required.
  • Ability to plan, organize, instruct, and facilitate quality educational programs, including developing relevant curriculum and assessment tools.
  • Upon hiring, must maintain Faculty Quality Assurance System requirements and any necessary licensure for program accreditation.
  • Subject to a Motor Vehicle Record Disclosure Check.

Compensation:
Hourly pay rate: $45.00 per hour, based on various factors including experience, qualifications, education, relevant certifications, internal equity, and market data.

Please note that adjunct instructors are hired on a per-course basis, with total hours ranging from approximately 3 to 8 hours per week, including day, evening, and weekend classes. Courses may be delivered in traditional classroom settings or through alternative formats.

New adjunct faculty are required to complete mandatory, non-compensated training within 30 days of hire. Additional training is necessary to qualify for teaching within the Wisconsin Technical College System within the first three years of employment.
