Job Overview
InsideHigherEd is seeking to build a pool of qualified candidates to teach in our Natural Resources program. Our adjunct faculty are vital partners for both students and the institution. An adjunct instructor engages with students beyond the classroom to foster their success, exemplifies our core values, and shows dedication to excellence in program and course content delivery. The ideal candidate will work effectively in a collaborative setting, be open to innovation and adaptation to meet the changing needs of the program and industry, and demonstrate proficiency in utilizing technology to enhance learning and teaching.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and execute effective instructional strategies, including alternative delivery methods when necessary.
  • Support and guide students facing challenges with assignments, assessments, course material, career advice, and other academic issues.
  • Conduct, develop, and implement skills assessments throughout the course duration, focusing on evaluating student performance.
  • Encourage student achievement through timely communication, constructive feedback, and tailored strategies for diverse learners.
  • Adhere to institutional policies regarding student assessment record keeping, timely grading, maintaining office hours for student support, etc.
  • Meet professional standards by staying current in the field and contributing to a collaborative culture within the institution.
  • Participate in departmental, division, and advisory committee meetings as required.
  • Engage in relevant professional development activities such as diversity training, technology workshops, etc.
  • Demonstrate commitment to the institution's mission, vision, and values.


Qualifications and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field. (An Associate Degree or equivalent may be considered based on experience and expertise), and
  • A minimum of two years of professional experience in a relevant occupation, with at least one year within the last five years prior to hire. One year of recent related occupational experience may be waived if the candidate has at least two years of post-secondary teaching experience in the relevant field within five years prior to hire.
  • Preferred experience of five years in the field.
  • Prior teaching or training experience is advantageous.
  • Must meet and maintain institutional requirements throughout employment as an instructor. Compliance with Higher Learning Commission (HLC) standards, Faculty Quality Assurance Standards (FQAS), and/or other job-specific licensing standards is required.
  • Subject to a motor vehicle records disclosure check.
  • Valid Driver's License.


Essential Skills and Attributes
  • Familiarity with contemporary educational methodologies and strategies, including learner-centered instruction, assessment, and collaborative techniques that aim to bridge gaps in student access and achievement across diverse backgrounds.
  • Proficient in the use of educational technology and alternative instructional methods.
  • Ability to integrate multicultural perspectives into course content and delivery.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with diverse populations, including individuals with disabilities.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Capability to engage with business and industry to establish partnerships and address needs.
  • Experience and knowledge in resource management applications.


Compensation
Hourly pay rate: $45.00 per hour.

Compensation is determined by various factors, including experience, qualifications, education, relevant certifications, internal equity, and market data.

Adjunct instructors are engaged on a per-course basis. Total hours for an adjunct instructor typically range from approximately 3 to 8 hours per week, with varying schedules that may include day, evening, and weekend classes. Courses may be delivered in traditional classrooms and alternative formats.

New adjunct faculty are required to complete mandatory training within 30 days of hire. Additional training is necessary to qualify for teaching within the relevant educational system within the first three years of employment.
