Job Description

The CUNY School of Labor and Urban Studies (SLU) is seeking a Director of Institutional Development to support and advance its educational, research, and public service mission. The successful candidate will work with existing and new partners to strengthen relationships and build new ones, with a focus on fundraising and external funding opportunities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and implement a comprehensive plan to align external funding with the School's vision, mission, and goals
  • Coordinate philanthropy activities, including foundations and major donors, to expand existing relationships and build new ones
  • Identify philanthropic funding opportunities, with a focus on foundations and individual contributors
  • Develop donor solicitations, create and evaluate fund-raising appeals, and provide regular progress reports to key stakeholders
  • Develop a close working relationship with CUNY's Advancement Office to leverage existing fundraising infrastructure and create efficiencies
  • Lead the organizational development of the SLU's nascent Foundation, including the development of its Foundation Board of Directors
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree and eight years of related experience required
  • Strong ties to labor, community, and philanthropic organizations
  • Demonstrated capacity to interact effectively with donors and institutional leaders
  • Excellent organizational, financial, and communication skills
  • Collaborative and team-oriented work style
  • Experience in developing and implementing strategic plans
