Work Shift: 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. / Mon. – Fri.

POSITION SUMMARY: The Assistant Project Manager plays a crucial role in aiding the organization in achieving its strategic objectives by providing essential support to the Project Manager and the project team. This role is pivotal in overseeing and directing assigned construction projects, ensuring timely completion, adherence to budgetary constraints, and optimal resource utilization. The project management team, including the Project Engineer, is committed to maintaining a safe working environment for all personnel.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist the Project Manager in effectively managing the overall project workflow from initiation to completion.
  • Collaborate with the Project Manager and field staff to promote and maintain a safe working environment.
  • Review and comprehend contract and bid documents; participate in project handover processes.
  • Support project documentation management, including insurance, bonding, permits, submittals, RFIs, change orders, and correspondence.
  • Ensure all project documents are stored in the designated document control software.
  • Confirm that accurate drawings are distributed to field teams.
  • Assist in preparing billing formats and schedules of values as per contract requirements.
  • Support the project schedule, indicating completion dates and subcontractor requirements.
  • Request purchase orders for major equipment and subcontractors, specifying shipping needs and expected delivery dates.
  • Facilitate material takeoffs in collaboration with trade supervisors.
  • Participate in necessary meetings with internal and external stakeholders to discuss scheduling, job progress, and solutions to challenges.
  • Assist project accounting and management with monthly billing and collections, following up on outstanding payments.
  • Work closely with supervisors to ensure project safety through regular discussions and site inspections.
  • Gather information for scope changes and collaborate with the project team and estimating for pricing adjustments.
  • Support field personnel during project closeout procedures.
  • Collect as-built documentation from the field and request CAD drawings from the VDC team.
  • Escalate critical issues to the Project Manager with suggested resolutions.
  • Meet project site onboarding requirements as per contractual obligations.
  • Adhere to all company policies, procedures, and safety programs.

QUALIFICATIONS:

To be successful in this role, candidates must demonstrate the ability to fulfill each essential duty effectively. The qualifications listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required:

PREFERRED EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:

  • 3 to 5 years of relevant experience in the construction industry.
  • Bachelor's degree in construction management, mechanical engineering, or a related field.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Familiarity with construction industry practices and documentation.
  • Understanding of federal, state, and local regulations and guidelines.

COMPUTER SKILLS:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel).
  • Experience with AutoCAD and other construction-related software.
  • Familiarity with project management and document control software.
  • Knowledge of construction and financial software packages.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands of this position require regular sitting, seeing, talking, and hearing. Employees must be able to use their hands for various tasks and may occasionally lift up to twenty-five pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, and depth perception.
