POSITION OVERVIEW

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

In the capacity of a Fraud Investigation Specialist 2, your duties will encompass:

  • Leading initial inquiries and advising on the commencement of full-scale investigations.
  • Planning, executing, and managing investigations independently or collaboratively with fellow investigators, adhering to established timelines.
  • Conducting interviews with witnesses, informants, state employees, and other relevant parties possessing information pertinent to the investigation.
  • Traveling to various locations to facilitate interviews as necessary.
  • Drafting or contributing to detailed investigative reports, including recommendations for enhancements in state agency operations to avert future discrepancies.

WORK SCHEDULE AND ADDITIONAL DETAILS

Employment Type: Full-time

  • Standard working hours are from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday, including a 60-minute lunch break.
  • Travel is an essential component of this role.
  • Remote Work: Opportunities for part-time telecommuting may be available, contingent upon operational requirements. A secure high-speed internet connection is necessary for remote work.
  • Compensation: The starting salary may be fixed in certain instances.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Experience and Training:

  • Two years of experience as a Special Investigator 1, or equivalent roles within the Commonwealth; or
  • Two years of experience in conducting criminal, civil, or administrative investigations, coupled with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice or a related discipline; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Special Requirements:

  • An active motor vehicle operator's license is mandatory.
  • Certification in CLEAN/NCIC must be obtained within two months of employment and maintained throughout the tenure in this position.
  • Completion of the Commonwealth Investigator Training Program (CITP) is required within the first year of employment.

  • A solid understanding of investigative methodologies and principles is essential.
  • Adherence to the ethical standards and values of the Office of State Inspector General is expected.
  • Demonstrated professionalism and discretion in all work-related activities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills are necessary.
  • Proactive problem-solving abilities and initiative are required.
  • Capability to perform essential job functions is a must.
