Position Overview

Transforce is looking for an Environmental Health and Safety Specialist to manage tasks related to hazardous materials management.

This role will involve the collection, handling, manifesting, packaging, and processing of various types of waste, including chemical, medical, universal, and low-level radioactive waste.

Additional responsibilities will encompass delivering supplies, conducting waste sampling, profiling and commingling, executing chemical transfers, performing emergency spill responses, providing hazardous waste training, drafting operational procedures, and creating informative articles.

The selected candidate will deliver exceptional, proactive customer service and act as the primary liaison between the Environmental Health and Safety Department and the broader community, ensuring compliance with regulations and coordinating waste pickups with contracted disposal vendors.

This position will also entail data collection, recordkeeping, report generation, and invoice reviews.

Required Qualifications

A Bachelor’s Degree in chemistry, environmental health science, or a related field, along with 1-3 years of experience in hazardous waste management within a university or similar industry.

Ability to classify, segregate, and manage hazardous waste, including loading and unloading materials of various shapes and weights (up to 50 pounds frequently and over 75 pounds occasionally); maneuvering drums weighing up to 300 pounds frequently and over 400 pounds occasionally.

Experience in preparing shipping documents (bills of lading, hazardous waste manifests, etc.) for outgoing hazardous materials and providing clear instructions to team members involved in handling shipments.

Strong organizational skills to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects independently with minimal supervision.

Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills, with the ability to work effectively with a diverse group of individuals.

Proficient oral and written communication skills.

Demonstrated ability to select appropriate shipping names and classify hazardous materials according to D.O.T. regulations.

Current certifications in DOT, RCRA, and Hazwoper technician level are preferred.

A valid driver's license is required, with the ability to obtain and maintain a commercial license with a hazardous materials endorsement.

Participation in a medical surveillance program and the ability to pass a physical examination for emergency response duties is necessary.

Participation in an on-call emergency response program is also a condition of employment.
