Procurement Specialist

Overview:

The Procurement Specialist serves as a vital link between Product Development and Operations teams at Houghton Mifflin Harcourt. This role is essential for ensuring timely delivery of products within assigned programs.

Key Responsibilities:

Communication:

  • Foster collaborative relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Participate in regular stakeholder meetings to gather necessary information for product planning.
  • Provide guidance to partners in Production and Editorial regarding manufacturing efficiency and optimal timelines.
  • Coordinate work with print partners and relay decisions to all relevant parties.
  • Collaborate with supply planning to determine the best manufacturing methods.
  • Challenge any processes that may incur excessive costs or are not scalable, escalating issues as needed.
  • Create and maintain reports and documentation in accordance with departmental standards.

Execution:

  • Monitor production and vendor schedules, negotiating changes as required.
  • Ensure that file shipments to printers are complete and accurate.
  • Develop a print strategy with comprehensive documentation for assigned projects.
  • Convert Purchase Requisitions into Purchase Orders efficiently.

Financial Management:

  • Provide preliminary, revised, and final cost estimates for assigned programs.
  • Identify potential cost-saving opportunities.

Offering Management:

  • Stay informed about product offerings and key dates.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Strong understanding of Supply Chain processes and practices.
  • Proven ability to meet deadlines consistently.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
  • Proficient in computer applications, particularly Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills for effective collaboration.
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities.

Preferred:

  • Experience with SAP R/3 is a plus.
  • Previous experience in a purchasing role is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with K-12 Educational Publishing is beneficial.

Physical Requirements:

The role may require prolonged periods of sitting or standing. The individual must be able to navigate the office environment to access necessary resources and operate office equipment effectively. Collaboration with colleagues may occur through various communication methods, including face-to-face meetings and virtual platforms.
